'Louis C. Tiffany and the Art of Devotion' is the first volume to explore the vast assortment of church decorations and memorials produced by Louis C. Tiffany (1848-1933) and the Tiffany Studios. For over 50 years Tiffany oversaw the production and marketing of a multitude of decorative elements for numerous chapels, churches and synagogues, afforded by the late 19th century American boom in religious building. Although an important part of the ecclesiastical business consisted of the vibrantly coloured leaded-glass windows most famously associated with his name, Tiffany was interested in the bigger picture and employed designers, draftsmen, and craftspeople to produce a complete interior design, including mosaics, windows, floors, lighting, furniture, altarpieces, pulpits, candlesticks, headstones and mausolea, vestments and jewellery. This beautifully illustrated volume includes preliminary designs, cartoons, watercolour sketches and archival photographs designs and products, many never published before. In numerous cases these are the only surviving remnants of buildings which have long since been demolished.

Описание: Celebrated for his Art Nouveau stained-glass interpretations of birds, insects, fruits and flowers, Louis Comfort Tiffany was the foremost American designer of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His enormous influence on his father's famed company, however, has been largely obscured. In this illustrated volume, Tiffany & Co design director John Loring puts into perspective the mutually beneficial bonds between "LCT" and the family firm. The book includes 350 colour images of the jewellery, enamels, blown glass, ceramics, desk accessories and other objets d'art created by LCT during his 16-year tenure as the company's design director, as well as luxury goods produced in his own studios - but in fact financed and retailed by the family company.

Описание: This beautiful book focuses on Laurelton Hall, Louis Comfort Tiffany's extraordinary country estate in Oyster Bay, Long Island, New York. Beginning in 1902, Tiffany (1848-1933) designed every aspect of the immense home, which had eighty-four rooms and eight levels, and extensive grounds into which the house was carefully integrated. Tiffany's residential masterpiece was also a quasi-museum, for he filled it with his own works - windows, glassware, pottery, enamels, lamps, oil paintings, and watercolours - as well as with objects from his collections of Islamic, Asian, and Native American art.Laurelton Hall burned down in 1957, but about ten years earlier most of its contents had been removed and sold. Every aspect of the estate is examined and re-created in this volume: its terraced gardens with fountains and pools; the many outbuildings; and Tiffany's life there. The interior decoration of Laurelton Hall, a particular focus of the book, is represented by both numerous period photographs and newly commissioned colour photography of surviving artworks and salvaged architectural components from the estate. For all who admire Tiffany and his work, this book presents a unique portrait of his remarkable home.
