Описание: The evolution of the genre of the nude in art illustrated through 200 important works by major artists from the 19th century to the present. The theme of the nude has always exercised a particular fascination on artists and viewers alike, and the representation of the human form has inspired some of the finest works in art history. One of the most challenging and stimulating subjects in the entire artistic tradition, the nude did not lose its allure even in the period in which art began to move in a different direction to that of the imitation of reality. In fact it showed an unexpected versatility and an undimmed power of suggestion even at the moments of greatest conflict with any traditional hypothesis of figuration, as at the time when nonrepresentational art reigned supreme. This volume, which aims to offer a fascinating visual survey of the nude, features over 200 paintings, sculptures and drawings - often celebrated masterpieces - and examines a period spanning over two hundred years. The book features works by the most important artists of the last two centuries beginning with neoclassical artists such as Canova and Ingres. Next it examines the whole of the 19th century, from Courbet to Cezanne, from romanticism to impressionism. It then moves on to the elegance of the Secession with Klimt, the revolution of the avant-garde with Picasso and all the movements from surrealism to existentialism, with works by Magritte, Dalf and Giacometti. Finally, it covers the second half of the last century up until the present day with artists such as Bourgeois, Gormley, Abramovic, Acconci, Beecroft, and Barney.
