It endeavours to be the first book with explicit emphasis on channel coding for transmission over wireless channels. Divided into 4 parts: Part 1 - explains the necessary background for novices. It aims to be both an easy reading text book and a deep research monograph. Part 2 - provides detailed coverage of turbo conventional and turbo block coding considering the known decoding algorithms and their performance over Gaussian as well as narrowband and wideband fading channels. Part 3 - comprehensively discusses both space-time block and space-time trlis coding for the first time in literature. Part 4 - provides an overview of turbo equalisations, also referred to as turbo demodulation. The book systematically converts the lessons of Shannons information theory into design principles applicable to practical wireless systems. It provides overall design performance studies, giving cognizance to the contradictory design requirements of bit error rate, implementational complexity, coding and interleaving delay, effective throughput, coding rate and other related systems design aspects in a comprehensive manner.

Описание: The common property among turbo-like code is that they consist of very simple constituent codes that are connected to each other with random or pseudorandom interleavers. The crucial novelty in these codes is the iterative decoding. This means that the constituent codes are decoded separately, which is ef?cient and practically feasible since they are very simple codes. Then, they pass new information to each other in a course of a few iterations. It has been shown that iterative decoding is a generalization of the well-known probability or belief propagation algorithm. The belief propagation algorithm that has been essential for development of new ideas throughout this work is described in the context of coding. The basic theorems for this algorithm are explained and proven in the following paragraphs. Thisis then followed by a description of the computational algorithm. The probability propagation algorithm is proven in c- junctionwithatree-structuredgraph-graphswithoutanycycle.Infact, thegraphical representation of any problem solved by this algorithm is the centerpiece of the algorithm. The generalization of the algorithm for graphs with cycles is presented later on. Representation of codes on graph is the next step towards characterization of the iterative decoding as an example of the probability propagation algorithm. The graph representations are presented for a few codes that are commonly used in turbo-like codes.

This SpringerBrief presents radio resource allocation schemes for buffer-aided communications systems over fading channels under statistical delay constraints in terms of upper-bounded average delay or delay-outage probability.

This Brief starts by considering a source-destination communications link with data arriving at the source transmission buffer. The first scenario, the joint optimal data admission control and power allocation problem for throughput maximization is considered, where the source is assumed to have a maximum power and an average delay constraints. The second scenario, optimal power allocation problems for energy harvesting (EH) communications systems under average delay or delay-outage constraints are explored, where the EH source harvests random amounts of energy from renewable energy sources, and stores the harvested energy in a battery during data transmission. Online resource allocation algorithms are developed when the statistical knowledge of the random channel fading, data arrivals, EH processes governing the system dynamics is unknown a-priori.

This Brief continues with a source-relay-destination communications link with buffers available at both source and relay, as part of a multi-hop network. Optimal resource allocation schemes for this 3-node relaying system to maximize its effective capacity under a delay-outage constraint are proposed, with special emphasis on relay roles: Half-duplex (HD) or full-duplex (FD) relay operation. With HD relay, the adaptive link selection relaying problem jointly with both fixed and adaptive power allocation schemes is investigated. Within each transmission frame, either the source-relay link or the relay-destination link is selected to be active depending on the channel conditions. With FD relay under the presence of non-zero residual self-interference (SI).

This Brief also presents source and relay power allocation schemes for both cases of available knowledge of the channel state information at transmitter (CSIT): instantaneous or statistical.
