Описание: These three groundbreaking works by Julio Cort zar--a major figure of world literature and one of the founders of the Latin American Boom--are published together in one volume for the first time, in honor of the centenary of his birth. With his influential "counternovel" HOPSCOTCH and his unforgettable short stories, Cort zar earned a place among the most innovative authors of the twentieth century. HOPSCOTCH is a nonlinear novel about an Argentinean writer living in Paris; it consists of 155 short chapters that the author advises the reader to read out of order. BLOW-UP and WE LOVE GLENDA SO MUCH bring together the most famous of Cort zar's short fiction, including "Axolotl," "End of the Game," "The Night Face Up," "Continuity of Parks," "Bestiary," and "Blow-Up." These are stories in which invisible beasts stalk children in their homes, the reader of a mystery finds out that he is the murderer's intended victim, an injured motorcyclist is pursued by Aztec warriors, and a man becomes a salamander in a Parisian zoo. In Cort zar's work, laws of nature, physics, and narrative fall away, leaving us with an astonishing new view of the world. (Book Jacket Status: Jacketed)

Описание: Diary of Andr s Fava is pure reflection: on his reading, dreams, conversations, and writing. This unpredictable journal of the protagonist of Cort zar's posthumously published El Examen is peppered with quotes from French poets and American jazzmen. Cort zar's brilliance and irreverence are in full power. Exploratory and honest, Diary of Andr s Fava lets us in on his own intimate reflections on literature, music, friendship, love, and the act of writing. It's full of bold jabs and devilish claims. A late-night rap session with Cort zar-he lets down his guard and we have the impossible pleasure of watching this lovable genius think and feel out loud.
Описание: Place and Displacement in the Narrative Worlds of Jorge Luis Borges and Julio Cort zar engages the notions of place and displacement as heuristic devices for literary analysis of Borges's and Cort zar's narratives. It maps out these authors' visions of place and displacement in some of their most famous texts; locates the 'place' of Borges's texts within Cort zar's fictional universe; and delineates new routes in communication between different literary traditions, and philosophical and anthropological discourses. This book also suggests that the challenge of a strict opposition between place and displacement in Borges's and Cort zar's works is both representative and emblematic of a continuum of Latin American literature.

Описание: This is the tragic history of two men and their circle of friends who live in Buenos Aires and Paris. Anticipating the age of the Web with a non-structure that allows readers to take the chapters in any order they wish, the book invites them to be the architects of the novel themselves.

Описание: This volume is an interpretation of the poetic work of one of the most important Spanish poets of the 20th century, Juan Ramon Jimenez (1881-1958). The lyrical production of this author covers the first half of the 20th century and develops from aestheticist fin de siecle poetry to abstract, quasi-religious writing at the end of his life. It is the intention to explain this evolution from the perspective of modern subjectivity, that is, by analysing the articulation of the lyrical subject that appears in Jimenezs poetic texts in the frame of the tradition of subject philosophy or philosophy of consciousness. A main presupposition underlying the present work is that, although each discourse develops within its own generic rules, literature and speculative thought hold an essential historical correlation with regard to, respectively, the representation and conceptualisation of human existence. Jimenezs poetry unfolds within the arch of modern poetry, from Romanticism to the Avant-Gardes, as it displays Romantic subjectivity, Symbolist textuality and Avant-Garde self-parody as different facets of the same paradigm. In this way, the present study can be considered the display of one long example that shows the how of modern subjectivity when exposed concretely, and thus as a sort of supplement to the many histories of Modernity that have appeared since Hegel and until today.
