Описание: Provides an introduction to input/output, controller design for linear systems to junior/senior level engineering and mathematics students. This work contains explanations and most examples that are single-input, single-output for ease of exposition. It is written specifically for the undergraduate mathematics student.
Описание: Turbulent flows modeled by systems of partial differential equations are often unstable and can typically be controlled or measured only from the boundary or walls of the flow domain. This monograph presents new constructive design methods for boundary stabilization and boundary estimation for several classes of benchmark problems in flow control, with potential applications in turbulence control, aerodynamics, weather forecasting, chemical processes, and plasma control. Topics and Features: * Use of a unique "backstepping" approach to parabolic partial differential equations, which yields not only the stabilization of the flow, but also the explicit solvability of the closed-loop system. * Discussion of hydrodynamics of the turbulent motions modeled by Navier–Stokes partial differential equations. ]* Introduction of control and state estimation designs for flows that include thermal convection and electric conductivity. * Presentation of a new result in fluid dynamics and the analysis of Navier–Stokes equations: closed-form expressions for the solutions of linearized Navier–Stokes equations under feedback. * Extension of the backstepping approach to eliminate one of the well-recognized root causes of transition to turbulence. This monograph is an excellent reference for a broad, interdisciplinary engineering and mathematics audience: control theorists, fluid mechanicists, mechanical engineers, aerospace engineers, chemical engineers, electrical engineers, applied mathematicians, as well as research and graduate students in the above areas. The book may also be used as a supplementary text for graduate courses on control of distributed-parameter systems and on flow control.
Описание: While conceptually elegant, the generic formulations of nonlinear model predictive control are not ready to use for the stabilization of relatively fast systems. It also provides research showing how generic predictive control schemes can be extended from slow process-based systems to a variety of fast systems.

Описание: Time-delays are important components of many dynamical systems that describe coupling or interconnection between dynamics, propagation, or transport phenomena in shared environments, in heredity, and in competition in population dynamics. This monograph addresses the problem of stability analysis and the stabilisation of dynamical systems subjected to time-delays. It presents a wide and self-contained panorama of analytical methods and computational algorithms using a unified eigenvalue-based approach illustrated by examples and applications in electrical and mechanical engineering, biology, and complex network analysis. This text bridges the fields of control (analysis and feedback design, robustness, and uncertainty) and numerical analysis (explicit algorithms, and methods). The authors provide an overall solution to the (robust) stability analysis and stabilisation problem of linear time-delay systems, which is the result of this cross-fertilisation of control theory, numerical linear algebra, numerical bifurcation analysis and optimisation.
Описание: This book reports on recent achievements in stability and feedback stabilization of infinite systems. In particular, emphasis is placed on second order partial
differential equations, such as Euler-Bernoulli beam equations, which arise from vibration control of flexible robot arms and large space structures. Various control methods such as
sensor feedback control and dynamic boundary control are applied to stabilize the equations.
Many new theorems and methods are included in the book. Proof procedures of
existing theor
ms are simplified, and detailed proofs have been given to most theorems. In addition to benefiting from the presentation of new results on semigroups and their stability, readers can also
learn several useful techniques for solving practical engineering problems.
Until now, the recently obtained research results included in this book were unavailable in one
volume. This self-contained book is an invaluable source of information for all those who are familiar with some basic theorems of functional analysis.

Описание: Covers stability and stabilization of equilibria for both linear and nonlinear time-invariant systems of ordinary differential equations. Suitable for advanced undergraduates and beginning graduate students in the sciences, engineering, and mathematics, this book takes a modern approach that bridges the gap between linear and nonlinear systems.
Описание: This monograph explores the modeling of conservation and balance laws of one-dimensional hyperbolic systems using partial differential equations. It presents typical examples of hyperbolic systems for a wide range of physical engineering applications, allowing readers to understand the concepts in whichever setting is most familiar to them. With these examples, it also illustrates how control boundary conditions may be defined for the most commonly used control devices. The authors begin with the simple case of systems of two linear conservation laws and then consider the stability of systems under more general boundary conditions that may be differential, nonlinear, or switching. They then extend their discussion to the case of nonlinear conservation laws and demonstrate the use of Lyapunov functions in this type of analysis. Systems of balance laws are considered next, starting with the linear variety before they move on to more general cases of nonlinear ones. They go on to show how the problem of boundary stabilization of systems of two balance laws by both full-state and dynamic output feedback in observer-controller form is solved by using a “backstepping” method, in which the gains of the feedback laws are solutions of an associated system of linear hyperbolic PDEs. The final chapter presents a case study on the control of navigable rivers to emphasize the main technological features that may occur in real live applications of boundary feedback control.Stability and Boundary Stabilization of 1-D Hyperbolic Systems will be of interest to graduate students and researchers in applied mathematics and control engineering. The wide range of applications it discusses will help it to have as broad an appeal within these groups as possible.

Описание: Stabilization of Navier–Stokes Flows presents recent notable progress in the mathematical theory of stabilization of Newtonian fluid flows. Finite-dimensional feedback controllers are used to stabilize exponentially the equilibrium solutions of Navier–Stokes equations, reducing or eliminating turbulence. Stochastic stabilization and robustness of stabilizable feedback are also discussed. The analysis developed here provides a rigorous pattern for the design of efficient stabilizable feedback controllers to meet the needs of practical problems and the conceptual controllers actually detailed will render the reader’s task of application easier still. Stabilization of Navier–Stokes Flows avoids the tedious and technical details often present in mathematical treatments of control and Navier–Stokes equations and will appeal to a sizeable audience of researchers and graduate students interested in the mathematics of flow and turbulence control and in Navier-Stokes equations in particular.

Описание: Recently, the subject of nonlinear control systems analysis has grown rapidly and this book provides a simple and self-contained presentation of their stability and feedback stabilization which enables the reader to learn and understand major techniques used in mathematical control theory. In particular: the important techniques of proving global stability properties are presented closely linked with corresponding methods of nonlinear feedback stabilization; a general framework of methods for proving stability is given, thus allowing the study of a wide class of nonlinear systems, including finite-dimensional systems described by ordinary differential equations, discrete-time systems, systems with delays and sampled-data systems; approaches to the proof of classical global stability properties are extended to non-classical global stability properties such as non-uniform-in-time stability and input-to-output stability; and new tools for stability analysis and control design of a wide class of nonlinear systems are introduced. The presentational emphasis of Stability and Stabilization of Nonlinear Systems is theoretical but the theory’s importance for concrete control problems is highlighted with a chapter specifically dedicated to applications and with numerous illustrative examples. Researchers working on nonlinear control theory will find this monograph of interest while graduate students of systems and control can also gain much insight and assistance from the methods and proofs detailed in this book.

Описание: With this brief, the authors present algorithms for model-free stabilization of unstable dynamic systems. An extremum-seeking algorithm assigns the role of a cost function to the dynamic system’s control Lyapunov function (clf) aiming at its minimization. The minimization of the clf drives the clf to zero and achieves asymptotic stabilization. This approach does not rely on, or require knowledge of, the system model. Instead, it employs periodic perturbation signals, along with the clf. The same effect is achieved as by using clf-based feedback laws that profit from modeling knowledge, but in a time-average sense. Rather than use integrals of the systems vector field, we employ Lie-bracket-based (i.e., derivative-based) averaging. The brief contains numerous examples and applications, including examples with unknown control directions and experiments with charged particle accelerators. It is intended for theoretical control engineers and mathematicians, and practitioners working in various industrial areas and in robotics.

Описание: Offers an introduction to the mathematics needed to model, analyze, and design feedback systems. This book covers the mathematics needed to model, analyze, and design feedback systems. It is suitable as an introductory textbook for students and a self-contained resource for researchers.
Описание: Sliding mode control is a simple and yet robust control technique, where the system states are made to confine to a selected subset. With the increasing use of computers and discrete-time samplers in controller implementation in the recent past, discrete-time systems and computer based control have become important topics. This monograph presents an output feedback sliding mode control philosophy which can be applied to almost all controllable and observable systems, while at the same time being simple enough as not to tax the computer too much. It is shown that the solution can be found in the synergy of the multirate output sampling concept and the concept of discrete-time sliding mode control.
