Описание: What you`ll find in this monograph is nothing less than a complete and rigorous study of modern functional analysis. It is intended for the student or researcher who could benefit from functional analytic methods, but who does not have an extensive background in the subject and does not plan to make a career as a functional analyst.

Описание: The subject of differential and difference equations is an old and much-honored chapter in science, one which germinated in applied fields such as celestial
mechanics, nonlinear oscillations, and fluid dynamics. In recent years, due primarily to the proliferation of computers, dynamical systems has once more turned to its roots in applications
with perhaps a more mature look. Many of the available books and expository narratives either require extensive mathematical preparation, or are not designed to be used as
textbooks.
The authors have filled this void with the present book.

Описание: Since the bestselling first edition was published, there has been a lot of new research conducted in the area of nonlinear dynamics and chaos. This revised edition provides new material, including a glossary and bibliography, as well as a generous supplement of new figures and illustrations.
Описание: This research monograph brings together, for the first time, the varied literature on Yosida approximations of stochastic differential equations (SDEs) in infinite dimensions and their applications into a single cohesive work. The author provides a clear and systematic introduction to the Yosida approximation method and justifies its power by presenting its applications in some practical topics such as stochastic stability and stochastic optimal control. The theory assimilated spans more than 35 years of mathematics, but is developed slowly and methodically in digestible pieces. The book begins with a motivational chapter that introduces the reader to several different models that play recurring roles throughout the book as the theory is unfolded, and invites readers from different disciplines to see immediately that the effort required to work through the theory that follows is worthwhile. From there, the author presents the necessary prerequisite material, and then launches the reader into the main discussion of the monograph, namely, Yosida approximations of SDEs, Yosida approximations of SDEs with Poisson jumps, and their applications. Most of the results considered in the main chapters appear for the first time in a book form, and contain illustrative examples on stochastic partial differential equations. The key steps are included in all proofs, especially the various estimates, which help the reader to get a true feel for the theory of Yosida approximations and their use. This work is intended for researchers and graduate students in mathematics specializing in probability theory and will appeal to numerical analysts, engineers, physicists and practitioners in finance who want to apply the theory of stochastic evolution equations. Since the approach is based mainly in semigroup theory, it is amenable to a wide audience including non-specialists in stochastic processes.

Описание: Number theory, spectral geometry, and fractal geometry are interlinked in this in-depth study of the vibrations of fractal strings, that is, one-dimensional drums with fractal boundary.Key Features: - The Riemann hypothesis is given a natural geometric reformulation in the context of vibrating fractal strings- Complex dimensions of a fractal string, defined as the poles of an associated zeta function, are studied in detail, then used to understand the oscillations intrinsic to the corresponding fractal geometries and frequency spectra- Explicit formulas are extended to apply to the geometric, spectral, and dynamic zeta functions associated with a fractal- Examples of such formulas include Prime Orbit Theorem with error term for self-similar flows, and a tube formula- The method of diophantine approximation is used to study self-similar strings and flows- Analytical and geometric methods are used to obtain new results about the vertical distribution of zeros of number-theoretic and other zeta functionsThroughout new results are examined. The final chapter gives a new definition of fractality as the presence of nonreal complex dimensions with positive real parts. The significant studies and problems illuminated in this work may be used in a classroom setting at the graduate level. Fractal Geometry, Complex Dimensions and Zeta Functions will appeal to students and researchers in number theory, fractal geometry, dynamical systems, spectral geometry, and mathematical physics.
Описание: This book presents applications of hypercomplex analysis to boundary value and initial-boundary value problems from various areas of mathematical physics. Given that quaternion and Clifford analysis offer natural and intelligent ways to enter into higher dimensions, it starts with quaternion and Clifford versions of complex function theory including series expansions with Appell polynomials, as well as Taylor and Laurent series. Several necessary function spaces are introduced, and an operator calculus based on modifications of the Dirac, Cauchy-Fueter, and Teodorescu operators and different decompositions of quaternion Hilbert spaces are proved. Finally, hypercomplex Fourier transforms are studied in detail. All this is then applied to first-order partial differential equations such as the Maxwell equations, the Carleman-Bers-Vekua system, the Schr?dinger equation, and the Beltrami equation. The higher-order equations start with Riccati-type equations. Further topics include spatial fluid flow problems, image and multi-channel processing, image diffusion, linear scale invariant filtering, and others. One of the highlights is the derivation of the three-dimensional Kolosov-Mushkelishvili formulas in linear elasticity. Throughout the book the authors endeavor to present historical references and important personalities. The book is intended for a wide audience in the mathematical and engineering sciences and is accessible to readers with a basic grasp of real, complex, and functional analysis.

Описание: The theory and applications of infinite dimensional dynamical systems have attracted the attention of scientists for quite some time. Dynamical issues arise in equations which attempt to model phenomena that change with time, and the infinite dimensional aspects occur when forces that describe the motion depend on spatial variables. This book may serve as an entree for scholars beginning their journey into the world of dynamical systems, especially infinite dimensional spaces. The main approach involves the theory of evolutionary equations. It begins with a brief essay on the evolution of evolutionary equations and introduces the origins of the basic elements of dynamical systems, flow and semiflow.
