Описание: The object of this book is the quantum mechanism that allows the macroscopic quantum coherence of a superconducting condensate to resist to the attacks of high temperature. Solution to this fundamental problem of modern physics is needed for the design of room temperature superconductors, for controlling the decoherence effects in the quantum computers and for the understanding of a possible role of quantum coherence in living matter that is debated today in quantum biophysics. The recent experimental results on nanoscale phase separation and the two component scenario in high Tc in doped cuprate and the lower symmetry in the superconducting elements at high pressure area presented. The compelling evidence for multiband superconductivity in MgB2 that provides the simplest system for testing the high Tc theories, and plays the same role as atomic hydrogen for the development of the quantum mechanics in the twenties, is one of the main points of the book. The multiband superconductivity enhances the critical temperature from the low Tc range Tc < 19K, to the high temperature range, Tc = 40K. The heterogeneous structure, the superlattice of superconducting layers, determines the disparity and different spatial location of the Bloch wave functions of electrons at the Fermi level that provides in superconductivity the clean limit. The chemical potential can be tuned by atomic substitutions without increasing inelastic single electron interband scattering. The Feshbach shape resonance in the exchange-like off-diagonal interband pairing term, as predicted since 1993, appears to be the mechanism for evading temperature decoherence effects and enhancing the critical temperature.

Описание: Here is an up-to-date and comprehensive review of the properties of these fascinating materials. With lots of illustrations, it details experimental results in the field, provides a critical comparison of theoretical models, and reviews recent achievements.
Описание: This book contains lectures on strongly correlated electron systems presented by eminent physicists. These lectures are up-to-date summaries of relevant subjects in the field of condensed matter physics. Contributions include: BCS theory of nodal superconductors; strongly correlated particle systems and composite operator methods; diagonalization- and numerical renormalization-group-based methods for interacting quantum systems; as well as phenomenological aspects of unconventional superconductivity.
Описание: The objective of the meeting was to promote the formation of young scientists by means of training through research. These features are reflected in the book: the pedagogical lectures are up-to-date monographs of relevant subjects in the field of condensed matter physics. Contributions include: polarons (the polaron concept, optical properties and internal structure of polarons, many-polaron systems, magnetoabsorption of polarons, optical properties of quantum dots: role of the polaron interaction, interacting polarons in a quantum dot, small polarons); multielectron bubbles in liquid helium: a spherical two-dimensional electron system (oscillation modes, bubble stability and fissioning, the spherical two-dimensional electron gas, the Wigner solid of electrons in the bubble); the numerical approach to the correlated electron problem: quantum Monte Carlo methods (the world line approach for the XXZ model and relation to the 6-vertex model, auxiliary field Quantum Monte Carlo algorithms, application of the auxiliary field QMC to specific Hamiltonians, the Hirsch-Fye impurity algorithm); basic models in the quantum theory of magnetism (the Heisenberg model, the Hubbard model, and the sd-model).
Описание: This review consists of three parts. The first part provides basic information about the physics and materials science of high-temperature superconductors for applications in magnet and energy technology. It addresses more than is required by a newcomer in this field, by putting together information from very different areas such as physical chemistry, materials science and condensed matter physics, which otherwise would have to be collected from various textbooks and original literature. In an introductory chapter potential applications are presented and the limitations of the materials are discussed. Part I closes with a final chapter on the present state of the art, where the latest results in this field are briefly reviewed. Parts II and III contain the most recent results on the preparation and characterization of Bi-2212 (Bi2Sr2CaCu2O5) wires and tapes, and Bi-2223
Описание: The papers were peer reviewed by a local panel. The objective of the meeting was to promote the progress of young scientists by means of training through research. The lectures are up-to-date monographs of relevant subjects in the field of condensed matter physics. Contributions include the following lectures: Electron-Phonon Interaction and Strong Correlations in High-Temperature Superconductors: One cannot avoid the unavoidable (The properties of the normal state and pairing mechanism in high-Tc superconductors, Forward scattering peak in the EPI, The FSP theory, The ARPES non-shift puzzle, Interesting predictions of the FSP theory); Strongly Correlated Electron Materials: Dynamical Mean-Field Theory and Electronic Structure (The basic principles of dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT), application of DMFT to the Mott transition, compare to recent spectroscopy, transport experiments; the key role of the quasiparticle coherence scale, transfers of spectral weight between low- and intermediate or high energies is emphasized); Monte Carlo Simulations of Quantum Systems with Global Updates (a model for doped antiferromagnets, first application of the hybrid loop algorithm, namely the t-Jmodel with 1/r2 interaction).

Описание: This book offers a comprehensive summary of experiments that are especially suited to reveal the order-parameter symmetry of unconventional superconductors. It briefly introduces readers to the basic theoretical concepts and terms of unconventional superconductivity, followed by a detailed overview of experimental techniques and results investigating the superconducting energy gap and phase, plus the pairing symmetry. This review includes measurements of specific heat, thermal conductivity, penetration depth and nuclearmagnetic resonance and muon-spin rotation experiments. Further, point-contact and tunnelling spectroscopy and Josephson experiments are addressed. Current understanding is reviewed from the experimental point of view. With an appendix offering five tables with almost 200 references that summarize the present results from ambient pressure heavy-fermion and noncopper-oxide superconductors, the monograph provides a valuable resource for further studies in this field.
Описание: Topological defects are generic in continuous media. In the relativistic quantum vacuum they are known as cosmic strings, in superconductors as quantized flux lines, and in superfluids, low-density atomic Bose-Einstein condensates and neutron stars as quantized vortex lines. This collection of articles by leading scientists presents a modern treatment of the physics of vortex matter, mainly applied to unconventional superconductors and superfluids but with extensions to other areas of physics.
Описание: This book provides a the only one-stop reference to illustrating design, analysis, and manufacturing concepts for different power devices utilizing HTS. Engineers at OEM, utilities, industry, and universities will be able to understand the basic theory and perform design and analysis for different devices.
