Описание: Structural design sensitivity analysis concerns the relationship between design variables available to the design engineer and structural responses determined by the laws of mechanics. The dependence of response measures such as displacement, stress, strain, natural frequency, buckling load, acoustic response, frequency response, noise-vibration-harshness (NVH), thermo-elastic response, and fatigue life on the material property, sizing, component shape, and configuration design variables is defined through the governing equations of structural mechanics. In this 2-volume set, first- and second- order design sensitivity analyses are presented for static and dynamics responses of both linear and nonlinear elastic structural systems, including elasto-plastic and frictional contact problems.Book 2 covers design sensitivity analysis of nonlinear structural systems using continuum design sensitivity analysis methods. It also discusses practical design tools and applications; sizing and shape design parameterization, design velocity field computation, numerical implementation of the sensitivity for general-purpose code development, and various other practical design applications.

Описание: Convexity of sets in linear spaces, and concavity and convexity of functions, lie at the root of beautiful theoretical results that are at the same time extremely useful in the analysis and solution of optimization problems, including problems of either single objective or multiple objectives. Not all of these results rely necessarily on convexity and concavity; some of the results can guarantee that each local optimum is also a global optimum, giving these methods broader application to a wider class of problems. Hence, the focus of the first part of the book is concerned with several types of generalized convex sets and generalized concave functions. In addition to their applicability to nonconvex optimization, these convex sets and generalized concave functions are used in the book's second part, where decision-making and optimization problems under uncertainty are investigated. Uncertainty in the problem data often cannot be avoided when dealing with practical problems. Errors occur in real-world data for a host of reasons. However, over the last thirty years, the fuzzy set approach has proved to be useful in these situations. It is this approach to optimization under uncertainty that is extensively used and studied in the second part of this book. Typically, the membership functions of fuzzy sets involved in such problems are neither concave nor convex. They are, however, often quasiconcave or concave in some generalized sense. This opens possibilities for application of results on generalized concavity to fuzzy optimization. Despite this obvious relation, applying the interface of these two areas has been limited to date. It is hoped that the combination of ideas and results from the field of generalized concavity on the one hand and fuzzy optimization on the other hand outlined and discussed in Generalized Concavity in Fuzzy Optimization and Decision Analysis will be of interest to both communities. Our aim is to broaden the classes of problems that the combination of these two areas can satisfactorily address and solve.

Описание: Variational analysis is a fruitful area in mathematics that, on one hand, deals with the study of optimization and equilibrium problems and, on the other hand, applies optimization, perturbation, and approximation ideas to the analysis of a broad range of problems that may not be of a variational nature. This monograph in two volumes contains a comprehensive and state-of-the art study of the basic concepts and principles of variational analysis and generalized differentiation in both finite-dimensional and infinite-dimensional spaces and presents numerous applications to problems in optimization, equilibria, stability and sensitivity, control theory, economics, mechanics, etc. The first volume is mainly devoted to the basic theory of variational analysis and generalized differentiations, while the second volume describes various applications. Both volumes include abundant bibliographies and extensive commentaries.

Описание: Sensitivity Analysis in Earth Observation Modeling highlights the state-of-the-art in ongoing research investigations and new applications of sensitivity analysis in earth observation modeling. In this framework, original works concerned with the development or exploitation of diverse methods applied to different types of earth observation data or earth observation-based modeling approaches are included. An overview of sensitivity analysis methods and principles is provided first, followed by examples of applications and case studies of different sensitivity/uncertainty analysis implementation methods, covering the full spectrum of sensitivity analysis techniques, including operational products. Finally, the book outlines challenges and future prospects for implementation in earth observation modeling. Information provided in this book is of practical value to readers looking to understand the principles of sensitivity analysis in earth observation modeling, the level of scientific maturity in the field, and where the main limitations or challenges are in terms of improving our ability to implement such approaches in a wide range of applications. Readers will also be informed on the implementation of sensitivity/uncertainty analysis on operational products available at present, on global and continental scales. All of this information is vital in the selection process of the most appropriate sensitivity analysis method to implement.
Описание: This work deals with analytic problems related to some developments and generalizations of the Boltzmann equation toward the modeling and qualitative
analysis of large systems that are of interest in applied sciences. These generalizations are documented in the various surveys edited by Bellomo and Pulvirenti with reference to models
of granular media, traffic flow, mathematical biology, communication networks, and coagulation models. The above literature motivates applied mathematicians to study the Cauchy
problem and to develop an asymptotic analysis for models regarded as developments of the Boltzmann equation.
This book aims to initiate the research plan by the analyzing
aforementioned analysis problems. The first generalization dealt with refers to the averaged Boltzmann equation, which is obtained by suitable averaging of the distribution function of
the field particles into the action domain of the test particle. This model is further developed to describe equations with dissipative collisions and a class of models that
re of interest in mathematical biology.
In this latter case the state of the particles is defined not only by a mechanical variable but also by a biological microscopic state. The
book is essentially devoted to analytic aspects and deals with the analysis of the Cauchy problem and with the development of an asymptotic theory to obtain the macroscopic
description from the mesoscopic one.
Описание: Numerical simulation of compressible, inviscid time-dependent flow is a major branch of computational fluid dynamics. Its primary goal is to obtain accurate representation of the time evolution of complex flow patterns, involving interactions of shocks, interfaces, and rarefaction waves. The Generalized Riemann Problem (GRP) algorithm, developed by the authors for this purpose, provides a unifying ‘shell’ which comprises some of the most commonly used numerical schemes of this process. This monograph gives a systematic presentation of the GRP methodology, starting from the underlying mathematical principles, through basic scheme analysis and scheme extensions (such as reacting flow or two-dimensional flows involving moving or stationary boundaries). An array of instructive examples illustrates the range of applications, extending from (simple) scalar equations to computational fluid dynamics. Background material from mathematical analysis and fluid dynamics is provided, making the book accessible to both researchers and graduate students of applied mathematics, science and engineering.
