Описание: The authors describe the electric, magnetic and other relaxational processes in a wide spectrum of materials: liquid crystals, molecular magnets, polymers, high-Tc superconductors and glasses. The book summarizes the phenomenological fundamentals and the experimental methods used. A detailed description of molecular and collective dynamics in the broad range of liquid crystals is presented. Magnetic systems, high-Tc superconductors, polymers and glasses are an important subject of matter. It is shown that the researchers working on relaxation processes in different fields of materials sciences are dealing with the same physical fundamentals, but are sometimes using slightly different terms. The book is addressed to scientists, engineers, graduate and undergraduate students, experimentalists and theorists in physics, chemistry, materials sciences and electronic engineering. Many internationally well known experts contribute to it.

These lectures are up-to-date summaries of relevant subjects in the field of condensed matter physics intended to train students. Описание: How new are the high Tc superconductors, as compared to the conventional low Tc ones? In what sense are these oxides different from regular metals in their
normal state? How different is the mechanism for high Tc superconductivity from the well-known electron-phonon interaction that explains so well superconductivity in metals and alloys?
What are the implications of the new features of the high Tc oxides for their practical applications? This book aims to give some answers to those questions, drawing particularly on
similarities between the high Tc oxides and granular superconductors, which also present a maximum of their critical temperature near the metal-insulator transition.

Описание: Properties of self-localized carriers on a lattice are described at a fairly basic level in this text, with an emphasis on modern developments in the theory of strong-coupling superconductivity.
Описание: The magnetic properties of oxides with perovskite, corundum, ilmenite and amorphous structures have been compiled in subvolume 27F. Part 27F2, published in 1994, presents magnetic data on perovskite-type layered cuprates which were discovered to show superconductivity with critical temperatures above 40 K (high-Tc superconductors). The present volume 27F2S is an update and extension of 27F2 with more precise data on high quality single crystals and some new effects and phenomena, covering the literature of the period 1991-2000.
Описание: The book will consist of approximately 30 to 40 separate articles where the main focus is on recent new results in high temperature superconductivity. The contributions are theoretical as well as experimental ones. All scientists who contribute are high rank experts in this field and have done major work which has enhanced the understanding of this phenomenon. a smaller part of the articles deals with ferroelectricity and their applications. Also in this field there have recently been major break throughs experimentally as well as theoretically which will be addressed by the invited authors. The book is dedicated to Prof. Dr. K. Alex MГјller on the occasion of his 80th birthday. During his scientific career he made major advances in the understanding of ferroelectricity, which used to be his major research field. The discovery of superconductivity in cuprates for which he received together with Dr. J. Georg Bednorz the Nobel Prize in 1987 has not diminished his interest in this area, but has enlarged his activities considerably. In high temperature superconductivity he activated major research areas which are highlighted in this book by many contributions.
Описание: The objective of the meeting was to promote the formation of young scientists by means of training through research. These features are reflected in the book: the pedagogical lectures are up-to-date monographs of relevant subjects in the field of condensed matter physics. Contributions include: polarons (the polaron concept, optical properties and internal structure of polarons, many-polaron systems, magnetoabsorption of polarons, optical properties of quantum dots: role of the polaron interaction, interacting polarons in a quantum dot, small polarons); multielectron bubbles in liquid helium: a spherical two-dimensional electron system (oscillation modes, bubble stability and fissioning, the spherical two-dimensional electron gas, the Wigner solid of electrons in the bubble); the numerical approach to the correlated electron problem: quantum Monte Carlo methods (the world line approach for the XXZ model and relation to the 6-vertex model, auxiliary field Quantum Monte Carlo algorithms, application of the auxiliary field QMC to specific Hamiltonians, the Hirsch-Fye impurity algorithm); basic models in the quantum theory of magnetism (the Heisenberg model, the Hubbard model, and the sd-model).
Описание: This is the first volume of a comprehensive two-volume treatise on superconductivity that represents the first such publication since the earlier work by R. Parks. It systematically reviews the basic physics and recent advances in the field. Leading researchers describe the state of the art in conventional phonon-induced superconductivity, high-Tc superconductivity, and novel superconductivity. After an introduction and historical overview, the leaders in the special fields of research give a comprehensive survey of the basics and the state of the art in chapters covering the entire field of superconductivity, including conventional and unconventional superconductors. Important new results are reported in a manner intended to stimulate further research. Numerous illustrations, diagrams and tables make this book especially useful as a reference work for students, teachers, and researchers. The second volume treats novel superconductors.
Описание: This review consists of three parts. The first part provides basic information about the physics and materials science of high-temperature superconductors for applications in magnet and energy technology. It addresses more than is required by a newcomer in this field, by putting together information from very different areas such as physical chemistry, materials science and condensed matter physics, which otherwise would have to be collected from various textbooks and original literature. In an introductory chapter potential applications are presented and the limitations of the materials are discussed. Part I closes with a final chapter on the present state of the art, where the latest results in this field are briefly reviewed. Parts II and III contain the most recent results on the preparation and characterization of Bi-2212 (Bi2Sr2CaCu2O5) wires and tapes, and Bi-2223
