Описание: The Neurologic Diagnosis: A Practical Bedside Approach is an introductory text that simplifies the often unwieldy method of making a neurologic diagnosis. Medical students are often intimidated by a deluge of data, extensive differential diagnoses, and have no organizational structure to follow. Diagnostic techniques of general medicine are not applicable. Neurology is a unique specialty since it requires the intermediary step of an anatomic diagnosis prior to proffering a differential diagnosis. Yet the required knowledge of neuroanatomy need not be profound for the student who will specialize in any field other than neurology and neurosurgery. This text is directed to medical students and residents who will all be regularly faced with numerous patients who have neurologic symptomatology. Typical one-month neurology rotations out of four years of medical school is clearly inadequate training to make a cogent neurologic diagnosis, especially since subsequent instruction is commonly provided by upper level residents who have the same background and numerous misconceptions. This is not a comprehensive text. The emphasis in this concise and practical title is on establishing a neuroanatomic diagnosis before formulating a differential diagnosis. In addition, treatment is seldom discussed since it is likely to change radically over time. Focused and succinct, The Neurologic Diagnosis: A Practical Bedside Approach is an invaluable resource for medical students and residents interested in the practice of neurological diagnosis.

Описание: Using a case study approach, each chapter is dedicated to a specific presenting symptom or sign and includes the associated key features, quickly reminding the clinician which investigations are needed in the doctor-patient encounter. An invaluable text for neurologists and psychiatrists at all stages of training.
Описание: Movement disorders - ranging from parkinsonism to a variety of hyperkinetic disorders, such as tremors, dystonic, chorea and myoclonus - can be the presenting or a prominent clinical feature in a broad spectrum of systemic conditions such as endocrine and metabolic disorders, autoimmune diseases, infections, intoxications, tumors and pareneoplastic syndromes, stroke and multiple sclerosis. The resulting clinical scenarios can be confusing and difficult to interpret by internists, generalists and neurologists. Movement Disorders in Neurologic and Systemic Disease provides comprehensive coverage of the most common movement disorders seen in systemic and general neurologic disease, as well as differential diagnostic and therapeutic algorithms. The chapters are written by internationally recognized experts and more than 50 illustrative videos highlight the phenomenology of some of the movement disorders and provide a useful 'bed-side' diagnostic tool. This book is a valuable resource for neurologists, physiatrists, psychiatrists, internists, primary care physicians and trainees in medicine and neurology.

Описание: This second edition of Neurologic Differential Diagnosis brings together clinical neurologic diagnosis with the recent addition of non-invasive neurodiagnostic tests. The combination makes for an economical approach by the neurologist in his attempt to give the patient the best in patient care. In the first part, the characteristic syndromes are discussed according to their location in the nervous system. It is assumed that the physician has made a provisional diagnosis, that is, on the basis of the information obtained, has localized the process. The neuro-anatomic and physiologic basis of the symptomatology and the etiologic processes responsible for such localization are described. This is important for a check on the correctness of the physician's topical diagnosis and is helpful in etiologic considerations. In the second part, it is assumed that the physician is unable to localize the process on the basis of single findings. Help, therefore, is needed in interpreting the localizing value of the main findings or symptoms. In this part an attempt is made to help in the process that results in a diagnosis based on the correct interpretation of neurologic symptoms. Their importance is analyzed according to the origin of the symptoms, the involved body part, or other considerations. This allows an orderly classification of symptoms according to localization of lesions. This, in turn, facilitates the etiologic considerations of the significance of various leading symptoms. In some longer sections of this book, a mirror method is used as the basis for the differential diagnostic analysis of a particular leading symptom.
Описание: Completely updated for its Fourth Edition, this book is the most comprehensive, current review of the molecular and genetic basis of neurologic and psychiatric
diseases. More than 120 leading experts provide a fresh, new assessment of recent molecular, genetic, and genomic advances, offer new insights into disease pathogenesis, describe
the newest available therapies, and explore promising areas of therapeutic development. This edition features an updated section on psychiatric disease and expanded, updated
chapters on human genomics, gene therapy, and ethical issues.
Six new chapters cover congenital myasthenic syndromes, hereditary spastic paraplegia, ion channel
disorders, the phakomatoses, beta-galactosidase deficiency, and prion diseases. A Neurologic Gene Map describes the chromosome locus of all the genetic diseases and their gene
product where known. The fully searchable online text will be available on a companion Website.
