Описание: This book presents a theoretical treatment of nonlinear behaviour of solids and structures in such a way that it is suitable for numerical computation, typically using the Finite Element Method. Starting out from elementary concepts, the author systematically uses the principle of virtual work, initially illustrated by truss structures, to give a self-contained and rigorous account of the basic methods. The author illustrates the combination of translations and rotations by finite deformation beam theories in absolute and co-rotation format, and describes the deformation of a three-dimensional continuum in material form. A concise introduction to finite elasticity is followed by an extension to elasto-plastic materials via internal variables and the maximum dissipation principle. Finally, the author presents numerical techniques for solution of the nonlinear global equations and summarises recent results on momentum and energy conserving integration of time-dependent problems. Exercises, examples and algorithms are included throughout.

Описание: Traditionally, engineers have used laboratory testing to investigate the behavior of metal structures and systems. These numerical models must be carefully developed, calibrated and validated against the available physical test results. They are commonly complex and very expensive. From concept to assembly, Finite Element Analysis and Design of Metal Structures provides civil and structural engineers with the concepts and procedures needed to build accurate numerical models without using expensive laboratory testing methods. Professionals and researchers will find Finite Element Analysis and Design of Metal Structures a valuable guide to finite elements in terms of its applications.

Описание: This book is a foray into the computer analysis of three-dimensional composite structures using the finite element method (FEM). The text advances from the
analysis of simple beams to arbitrary anisotropic and composite plates and shells; it treats both linear and nonlinear behaviour. Once the basic philosophy of the method is understood,
the reader may expand its application and modify the computer programs to suit particular needs.
It is shown how this leads to considerable savings in computer time. Chapter
1 provides results from continuum mechanics and forms the Principles of Virtual Work and Potential Energy. Chapter 2 sketches the history of the FEM.
Chapter 3 introduces
the concepts of natural modes and natural stiffness. Chapter 4 introduces the basic concepts of the theory of composites. Chapter 5 applies the natural mode met
od to the analysis of composite beams in three dimensions.Chapter 6 introduces the composite plate and shell element.
Chapter 7 shows the computational advantages of the
method on a model problem. Chapter 8 deals with nonlinear analysis of anisotropic shells. Chapter 9 discusses programming aspects.
The volume is designed for advanced
undergraduates, graduates, researchers, and practising engineers in the industry. The book is accompanied by a floppy disc containing the relevant software.
Описание: This important textbook provides an introduction to the concepts of the newly developed extended finite element method (XFEM) for fracture analysis of structures, as well as for other related engineering applications. One of the main advantages of the method is that it avoids any need for remeshing or geometric crack modelling in numerical simulation, while generating discontinuous fields along a crack and around its tip. The second major advantage of the method is that by a small increase in number of degrees of freedom, far more accurate solutions can be obtained. The method has recently been extended to nonlinear materials and other disciplines such as modelling contact and interface, simulation of inclusions and holes, moving and changing phase problems, and even to multiscale analyses. The book is self contained, with summaries of both classical and modern computational techniques. The main chapters include a comprehensive range of numerical examples describing various features of XFEM.
Описание: Covers most of the theoretical and computational aspects of the linear static analysis of structures with the Finite Element Method (FEM). This book presents the basis of the FEM for structural analysis and a detailed description of the finite element formulation for axially loaded bars, and plane elasticity problems.
Описание: Covers the theoretical and computational aspects of the linear static analysis of structures with the Finite Element Method (FEM). This book describes the finite element formulation for analysis of slender and thick beams, thin and thick plates, folded plate structures, axisymmetric shells, and general curved shells.

Описание: Inelastic Analysis of Solids and Structures presents in a unified manner the physical and theoretical background of inelastic material models and computational methods, and illustrates the behavior of the models in typical engineering conditions. The book describes experimental observations and principles of mechanics, and efficient computational algorithms for stress calculations as typically performed in finite element analysis. The theoretical background is given to an extent necessary to describe the commonly employed material models in metal isotropic and orthotropic plasticity, thermoplasticity and viscoplasticity, and the plasticity of geological materials. The computational algorithms are developed in a unified manner with some detailed derivations of the algorithmic relations. Many solved examples are presented, which are designed to give insight into the material behavior in various engineering conditions, and to demonstrate the application of the computational algorithms.
Описание: Along with its companion volume, this book provides a comprehensive presentation of the boundary element method (BEM) from fundamentals to advanced engineering applications. It provides comprehensive formulation of the BEM with application to a wide range of engineering problems.

Описание: There are relatively few books related to contact between structural elements, like beams, plates or shells. The purpose of this state-of-the-art work is to fill this gap. It offers a systematic description of a finite element analysis of beam-to-beam contact.
Описание: In recent years, bridge engineers and researchers are increasingly turning to the finite element method for the design of Steel and Steel-Concrete Composite Bridges. However, the complexity of the method has made the transition slow. Based on twenty years of experience, Finite Element Analysis and Design of Steel and Steel-Concrete Composite Bridges provides structural engineers and researchers with detailed modeling techniques for creating robust design models. The book’s seven chapters begin with an overview of the various forms of modern steel and steel–concrete composite bridges as well as current design codes. This is followed by self-contained chapters concerning: nonlinear material behavior of the bridge components, applied loads and stability of steel and steel–concrete composite bridges, and design of steel and steel–concrete composite bridge components.
