Описание: During the past decade of soaring online course enrollments, science courses that require a lab portion (biology, chemistry, physics, geology, etc.) have not been as broadly and frequently offered online as non-science disciplines. This hesitancy to offer these courses online is primarily due to two factors: (1) educators trepidation over how to provide online students with the hands-on wet laboratory experiences they need to learn science effectively and (2) educators lack of knowledge on how to transition their course content and interaction from face-to-face to online delivery. This book applies to teaching all parts of such courses, not only the lab itself. The book is designed to help higher education science educators transition from teaching face-to-face courses with on-campus lab components to online learning facilitation with progressive, off-campus science experimentation. It will first provide general guidance and advice on: how teaching science online is different from other disciplines getting administrative and faculty buy-in for teaching science online negotiating internal politics and budget implications using learning management systems and web 2.0 technologies including video presentations, e-mail, discussion boards, Google apps, Skype, video/web conferencing, and social media networking how to organize an online science course Further, according to educational institutions and  associations such as the American Chemical Society and the National Science Teachers Association, laboratory experimentation is essential for learning science. In fact, national education standards require a hands-on, wet lab experiences to earn accredited and transferable credits in certain lab science courses.
