Описание: The Human Brain in Dissection will significantly update the previous edition published in 1988. The last 20 years have sen a significant shift in the way that neuroanatomy is taught in both undergraduate and graduate neuroscience courses, as well as doctorate courses: not only has the time allocated for these courses been reduced, but the methodologies for teaching have become more focused and specific due to these time constraints. The Human Brain in Dissection, Third Edition will provide detailed features of the human brain with the above limitations in mind. 50 new plates will be added to the existing 123 in order to permit the student to see all salient structures and to visualize microscopic structures of the brain stem and spinal cord. Each chapter will cover a specific are of the human brain in such a way that each chapter can be taught in one two-hour neuroanatomy course. New to this edition is the inclusion of a section in each chapter on clinically relevant examples. Each chapter will also include a specific laboratory exercise. And finally, the author has included a question and answer section that is relevant to the USMLE, as as recommended readings, neither of which were included in the previous editions. This new edition of The Human Brain in Dissection will allow the student to: understand basic principles of cellular neuroscience; learn gross and microscopic anatomy of the central nervous system (Brain, brainstem, and spinal cord); relate the anatomy of central neural pathways to specific functional systems; be able to localize and name a CNS legion when presented with neurological symptoms, and appreciate higher cortical functions and how they relate to the practice of neurology. neuroscience

Описание: In Neurotrauma and Critical Care of the Brain, leading clinicians present widely accepted guidelines and evidence-based practices for the management of patients with traumatic brain injury. Divided into five main sections, the book guides the clinician through the science, management, critical care, outcomes, and important socioeconomic issues relevant to patient care.Special Features:-Offers the valuable team approach and recommendations of renowned surgeons, clinicians, rehabilitation specialists, and researchers -Includes guidelines for injuries ranging from mild to moderate, severe, and penetrating, and for treating brain injury in children -Covers the related intensive care issues of neurologic, pulmonary, cardiovascular, and infection management and nutrition and fluid control -Reviews fundamental science concepts, including pathophysiology, monitoring and imaging, biomarkers and classification systems for brain injury -Provides hundreds of concise summary tables and illustrations to help digest complex information -Discusses ethics and important end-of-life issues With an integrated management approach to injury and rehabilitation that goes well beyond initial surgery, Neurotrauma and Critical Care of the Brain will enable neurosurgeons, neurologists, physicians in trauma, critical care, and rehabilitation medicine, and residents in these specialties to optimize patient care and outcomes. It is also useful as a guide for board exam preparation. The companion volume to this book is Neurotrauma and Critical Care of the Spine.
Описание: In a rapidly changing field with many new discoveries, a book such as this is very valuable. Practitioners could easily get overwhelmed by the hundreds of contradicting scientific articles, but this book summarizes the literature and equips them to choose the best approaches for their patients. This is a great addition to the patient care and scientific library. -- Doody Enterprises, Inc. Because of tremendous advancements in research, neurosurgical oncology has become increasingly complex, and it is imperative that physicians have scientific evidence to guide and defend their decision making as they strive to provide the best patient care. Controversies in Neuro-Oncology: Best Evidence Medicine for Brain Tumor Surgery, written by world-renowned experts, is a comprehensive guide that compiles, synthesizes, and summarizes the most relevant scientific literature available in neurosurgical oncology. It provides objective recommendations based on the data found in the literature, giving physicians the information they need to make fully informed treatment decisions.Key Features:An opening chapter, Introduction to Best Evidence Medicine, illustrates how the authors rate the viability of the data presented Authors discuss in detail commonly disputed topics specific to tumor type, such as the roles of surgery and gross total resection as well as radiosurgery options Expert recommendation boxes highlight “takeaways” for the reader Summary tables distill abundant scientific evidence and emphasize the main conclusions of published studiesThis book will be the go-to guide for all neurosurgeons, oncologists, and neurologists involved in the multidisciplinary care of patients with brain tumors.

Описание: This book presents a comprehensive overview of the basic science and current clinical knowledge on cavernous malformations of the brain and spinal cord. Cavernous Malformations of the Brain and Spinal Cord begins by covering general aspects of the disease, including the natural history, molecular biology, pathological processes, genetic basis, neuroradiology, and classification of cavernous malformations. Separate chapters then address the various types of cavernous malformations, thoroughly describing the clinical presentation and management approaches for each clinical situation. Incisive review of recent literature sheds light on topics of incidence, location, and outcomes.
