Описание: Having a child with challenging behavior can be frustrating and affect the entire family. This workbook will help you take a more positive attitude toward your child and carry out effective steps to improve behavior. You will begin to feel more confident in your parenting skills and more optimistic about your child's future. The program outlined in this workbook will be tailored to your child's and family's needs and goals. It will teach you how to identify what sets off your child's problem behavior, as well as what your child gets or avoids from misbehaving. You will learn strategies to prevent problems, manage consequences, and teach your child new skills. With the help of your facilitator you will design a behavior support plan for your child. Finally, you will put the plan into effect and monitor the results. Throughout the program, you will be practicing how to think more positively, which can help you be a better parent. In addition to working with your facilitator in session, you will be completing homework assignments using the workbook. Each chapter provides the information and forms you need to assess your child's behavior, apply new strategies, and track your family's progress. As you support positive behavior step by step, you will be working towards improving the lives of your child and your family.

Описание: Children who have been sexually abused not only often experience PTSD symptoms as a direct result of the trauma, but also develop unhealthy emotional responses and may engage in age-inappropriate sexual behaviors. In addition, parents also suffer from the trauma and thus are often in need of emotional support and guidance in responding to their children's needs. Based on over 25 years of research supported by grants from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), the National Center on Child Abuse and Neglect (NCCAN), and other funding sources, Child Sexual Abuse describes a premier empirically supported treatment approach for children, adolescents, and non-offending parents/caregivers impacted by child sexual abuse. Developed to provide support and to alleviate symptoms and problem behaviors in children and adolescents, trauma-focused CBT for child sexual abuse incorporates treatment components that provide children and their caregivers with education and coping skills training, while simultaneously addressing the trauma. The book describes the nuts and bolts of treatment including trauma narration and processing that helps to alleviate children's distress and feelings of shame associated with the abuse. Parents are also taught effective behavior management skills, and treatment often culminates with a focus on parent-child communication and enhancing safety and future development. This highly effective treatment model can be adapted to be delivered in school-based, residential, home and/or group settings.

Описание:

School transition is a life changing event for children - they are rarely faced with such a powerful set of personal and social changes. These underpin the immediate and longer term wellbeing of children, peer groups, teachers and schools. Understanding School Transition provides a most comprehensive, international review of this important area, complete with practical advice on what practitioners can do to support children's wellbeing, motivation and achievement.

Offering an accessible introduction to children's psychology at transition, Understanding School Transition explores transition as a status passage, what we really mean by wellbeing, and the ways in which children adapt to new environments. Key chapters focus on:

  • Understanding stress and anxiety
  • Children's hopes, fears and myths at transition
  • Parents' and teachers' influence and role
  • Children's relationships with peers as they change schools
  • Children's personal and collective identities
  • Motivation, engagement and achievement
  • Supporting the most vulnerable children

Crucially, it advises how you can help children through implementing transition interventions and evaluating their success in your own school. Illustrated by case studies of experiences in real schools, Understanding School Transition will be essential reading for all training and practising teachers, as well as transition and subject specialists, who want to better understand and influence what happens to children at this critical stage.
