Описание: This book takes an applications first approach as opposed to presenting the material in the typical format of definition, theorem, proof, example, etc.   This book immediately immerses readers in applications.  The books development is easy to understand and allows students to immediately learn about applications.  Early in the book, readers are using wavelet transformations to perform naive data/image compression, edge detection in images, and signal de-noising.  Problems are solved in an ad hoc manner, which gives way to a more general development model midway through the text allowing students to understand why general construction is performed.  Readers gain an appreciation and mastery of the discrete wavelet transform and learn of its value in problems such as data compression, signal de-noising, and image edge detection.  In addition, the sophisticated wavelet transforms require entire problems to be modeled in a more classical and mathematical way.  After constructing sophisticated wavelet transforms, readers study the role of the wavelet transform in the JPEG2000 Image Compression Standard.  Book highlights include: a chapter on digital images, quantitative/qualitative measures, and encoding; two chapters dedicated to applications; an introduction to the Fourier Series; and detailed development of pseudocode for all wavelet transforms and their inverses.
