Описание: In Foundations of Ethical Practice, Research, and Teaching in Psychology and Counseling, Kitchener and Anderson lay a conceptual foundation for thinking well about ethical problems. Whereas the first edition focused mainly on ethical reasoning and decision making, this new edition draws more explicitly on all components of James Rest's model of moral/ethical behavior, including moral/ethical sensitivity, moral/ethical decision making, moral/ethical motivation, and the ego strength to follow through on the decision. The book addresses five key principles of ethical decision making and includes updated sections on research, teaching and supervision, and practice. It discusses the relationship of the ethical principles and the model of ethical decision-making to professional ethical codes, while offering discussion questions, case scenarios, and activities to help the reader focus on ethical character and virtue. Foundations of Ethical Practice, Research, and Teaching in Psychology and Counseling gives psychologists, students, and trainees the tools they need to analyze their own ethical quandaries and take the right action.

A variety of guided exercises are supplemented by short papers and commentaries on legal and ethical issues, challenging readers to develop their own analyses and recommendations. Chapters cover death, genetics, new reproductive technologies, research, long-term care, mental health, children and young people, allocation of scarce resources, and general issues about autonomy and patient choice. An appendix discusses the use of this book in teaching, along with a full bibliography, list of Kennedy Institute keywords, and suggestions for further reading. An interactive CD-ROM packaged with the book provides extra cases, a glossary, legal references and the chance to record a personal learning diary. Its simple, clear style makes this book ideal for individual reference and as a set text for group teaching.
Описание: This book challenges the unchallenged methods in medicine, such as evidence-based medicine, which claim to be, but often are not, scientific. It completes medical care by adding the comprehensive humanistic perspectives and philosophy of medicine. No specific or absolute recommendations are given regarding medical treatment, moral approaches, or legal advice. Given rather is discussion about each issue involved and the strongest arguments indicated. Each argument is subject to further critical analysis. This is the same position as with any philosophical, medical or scientific view. The argument that decision-making in medicine is inadequate unless grounded on a philosophy of medicine is not meant to include all of philosophy and every philosopher. On the contrary, it includes only sound, practical and humanistic philosophy and philosophers who are creative and critical thinkers and who have concerned themselves with the topics relevant to medicine. These would be those philosophers who engage in practical philosophy, such as the pragmatists, humanists, naturalists, and ordinary-language philosophers. A new definition of our own philosophy of life emerges and it is necessary to have one. Good lifestyle no longer means just abstaining from cigarettes, alcohol and getting exercise. It also means living a holistic life, which includes all of one's thinking, personality and actions. This book also includes new ways of thinking. In this regard the Metaphorical Method is explained, used, and exemplified in depth, for example in the chapters on care, egoism and altruism, letting die, etc.
