"In our long human journey, individual and collective, the journey that science calls evolution, many indeed are the turning points. But they are not so much turning points in outer, material manifestation in the fossils of paleontology, for those fossils are only the shed garments worn by humans in an earlier age, vestments designed by providence to meet the need of a changing human consciousness moving through time. Where the real evolution occurs, for which the necessary outer garments are tailored over time, is in the realm of consciousness as it transitions from spirit to matter and back to spirit" (Edward Reaugh Smith, from the introduction).
Rudolf Steiner gave the six lectures in this volume between January 1911 and January 1912. Soon after Steiner's death in 1925, Marie Steiner--realizing the importance of those lectures for understanding the evolution of consciousness and the central role of the Christ event in that process--collected them under the title Turning Points in Spiritual History.
According to Rudolf Steiner, Earth is the crucible of cosmic evolution, and earthly evolution is accomplished through humanity. Further, there were five turning points--or critical, transformative moments--in the process leading to the culmination of the Christ's incarnation through the Mystery of Golgotha. Each of those five points is exemplified by an individual: Zarathustra, Hermes, Moses, Elijah, and the Buddha.
Each of these lectures deals in turn with one of these great beings. In them, Steiner provides us with astonishing views of esoteric history and shows the remarkable ways in which the spiritual world guided and nurtured the spiritual evolution in preparation for the Christ's appearance on Earth.

Описание: 12 lectures, Berne, September 1-12, 1910 (CW 123)
For centuries people have been baffled by the varying accounts of Christ's life as presented in the four Gospels and have struggled to reconcile them. In these profound and stimulating lectures, Steiner addresses this conundrum. He shows how each of the Gospels presents a different lens onto Christ's life and message.
Here Steiner reveals the Gospel of Matthew as the one that emphasizes Christ's humanity. But he does not stop there; his visionary perspective traces Christ's life and message to spiritual impulses that go back centuries, even millennia, to the legendary civilization of Atlantis, to the mysterious Zarathustra, and to the Jewish sect known as the Essenes.
An introduction by Richard Smoley, author of Inner Christianity, puts Steiner's vision into perspective for modern readers. Once you have experienced Steiner's powerful exploration of Matthew, you will never see the Gospels in the same way again.
Previous translation titled The Gospel of St. Matthew.
READ BOBBY MATHERNE'S REVIEW OF THIS BOOK
"If we read Steiner's] lectures with an open and attentive inner eye, we may be able to see the Christ mystery, not as a collection of dogmas or facts, but as a spiritual impulse that stretches far beyond the limits of Christ's own time and even of the lifespan of Christianity itself. We may even catch a glimpse of the high powers that govern the life of civilizations and of the great entity known as the human race." --Richard Smoley (from the introduction)
According to Matthew is a translation from German of Das Matthaeus-evangelium.A previous translation was titled The Gospel of St. Matthew.

Описание: "The great importance of these plays is not that we are given many thoughts to further our understanding of Anthroposophy, but that we are shown the transforming power of spiritual striving in individual lives, and especially the development in human relationships through an awareness of the forces of destiny. In this respect, the Mystery Plays are unique." (from the foreword)
In writing and producing his mystery plays, Rudolf Steiner offered his spiritual observations and concepts from a fresh, artistic perspective. The dramas appeared in the context of the movement of "theatrical realism" during a period when only a handful of dramatists attempted representations of a spiritual world, most presented as fantasy. In introducing spiritual beings to the stage and showing their connections with human beings, Steiner was pioneering a drama for the future.
Eileen Hutchins's classic work on Steiner's Mystery Plays provides a thoughtful commentary that helps us enter the minds and souls of the characters. By gaining insights into their relationships and inner lives and the problems and situations they faced, the characters are brought to life. Gradually, we begin to see possible solutions to the complex web of their difficulties.
