Описание: Probabilistic and Statistical Methods in Computer Science presents a large variety of applications of probability theory and statistics in computer science and more precisely in algorithm analysis, speech recognition and robotics. It is written on a self-contained basis: all probabilistic and statistical tools needed are introduced on a comprehensible level. In addition all examples are worked out completely. Most of the material is scattered throughout available literature. However, this is the first volume that brings together all of this material in such an accessible format. Probabilistic and Statistical Methods in Computer Science is intended for students in computer science and applied mathematics, for engineers and for all researchers interested in applications of probability theory and statistics. It is suitable for self study as well as being appropriate for a course or seminar.
Описание: Soils and rocks are among the most variable of all engineering materials, and as such are highly amenable to a probabilistic treatment. The application of statistical and probabilistic concepts to geotechnical analysis is a rapidly growing area of interest for both academics and practitioners. The book is therefore aimed at students, researchers, and practitioners of geotechnical engineering who wish to keep abreast of developments in this evolving field of study. The course content and will assume no more that an introductory understanding of probability and statistics on the part of the course participants. The main objective is to present a state-of-the-art training on probabilistic techniques applied to geotechnical engineering in relation to both theory and practice. Including:(a) discussion of potential benefits of probabilistic approaches as opposed to the classical “Factor of Safety” methods, to review sources of uncertainty in geotechnical analysis and to introduce methods of LRFD and reliability concepts in Eurocode 7,(b) review of relevant statistical theories needed to develop the methodologies and interpret the results of probabilistic analysis,(c) examples of established probabilistic methods of analysis in geotechnical engineering, such as the First Order Second Moment (FOSM) method, the Point Estimate Method (PEM), the First and Second Order Reliability Methods (FORM SORM) and Random Set (RS) theory,(d) description of numerical methods of probabilistic analysis based on the finite element method, such as the Stochastic Finite Element Method (SFEM) and recent developments on the Random Finite Element Method (RFEM),(e) practical examples and case histories of probabilistic applications in geotechnical engineering.
Описание: Fixed point theory in probabilistic metric spaces can be considered as a part of Probabilistic Analysis, which is a very dynamic area of mathematical research. A primary aim of this monograph is to stimulate interest among scientists and students in this fascinating field. The text is self-contained for a reader with a modest knowledge of the metric fixed point theory. Several themes run through this book. The first is the theory of triangular norms (t-norms), which is closely related to fixed point theory in probabilistic metric spaces. Its recent development has had a strong influence upon the fixed point theory in probabilistic metric spaces. In Chapter 1 some basic properties of t-norms are presented and several special classes of t-norms are investigated. Chapter 2 is an overview of some basic definitions and examples from the theory of probabilistic metric spaces. Chapters 3, 4, and 5 deal with some single-valued and multi-valued probabilistic versions of the Banach contraction principle. In Chapter 6, some basic results in locally convex topological vector spaces are used and applied to fixed point theory in vector spaces. Audience: The book will be of value to graduate students, researchers, and applied mathematicians working in nonlinear analysis and probabilistic metric spaces.
Описание: Examines uncertain systems in control engineering and general decision or optimization problems for which data is uncertain. This book describes theory and solution methods for probability-constrained and stochastic optimization problems. It is of interest to researchers, academics and postgraduates in control engineering and operations research.
Описание: Despite its haphazard growth, the Web hides powerful underlying regularities - from the organization of its links to the patterns found in its use by millions of users. This work allows many of these regularities to be predicted on the basis of theoretical models based on statistical methodology.
Описание: Cryptology nowadays is one of the most important areas of applied mathematics, building on deep results and methods from various areas of mathematics. This text is devoted to the study of stochastic aspects of cryptology.Besides classical topics from cryptology, the author presents chapters on probabilistic prime number tests, factorization with quantum computers, random-number generators, pseudo-random-number generators, information theory, and the birthday paradox and meet-in-the-middle attack. In the light of the vast literature on stochastic results relevant for cryptology, this book is intended as an invitation and introduction for students, researchers, and practitioners to probabilistic and statistical issues in cryptology.
Описание: The lectures concentrate on some old and new relations between quasiderivatives of solutions to Ito stochastic equations and interior smoothness of harmonic functions associated with degenerate elliptic equations. Recent progress in the case of constant coefficients is discussed in full detail.
Описание: This volume contains research papers presented at the international workshop on "Probabilistic Methods in Fluids" held in Swansea. The central problems
considered were turbulence and the Navier-Stokes equations but, as is now well known, these classical problems are deeply intertwined with modern studies of stochastic partial
differential equations, jump processes and random dynamical systems. The volume provides a snapshot of studies in a field where the applications range from the design of aircraft
through the mathematics of fi
ance to the study of fluids in porous media.
Описание: Probabilistic Methods for Financial and Marketing Informatics aims to provide students with insights and a guide explaining how to apply probabilistic reasoning to business problems. Rather than dwelling on rigor, algorithms, and proofs of theorems, the authors concentrate on showing examples and using the software package Netica to represent and solve problems. The book contains unique coverage of probabilistic reasoning topics applied to business problems, including marketing, banking, operations management, and finance. It shares insights about when and why probabilistic methods can and cannot be used effectively. This book is recommended for all R&D professionals and students who are involved with industrial informatics, that is, applying the methodologies of computer science and engineering to business or industry information. This includes computer science and other professionals in the data management and data mining field whose interests are business and marketing information in general, and who want to apply AI and probabilistic methods to their problems in order to better predict how well a product or service will do in a particular market, for instance. Typical fields where this technology is used are in advertising, venture capital decision making, operational risk measurement in any industry, credit scoring, and investment science.
