Bach's life was a searching for all that was best in his art to refine it in the fire of his genius. -- Grove's Dictionary of Music and Musicians Bach's mastery of rhythm and harmony, inventiveness, and genius for composition produced some of the richest and most beautiful music of all time. Those qualities are strikingly evident in his early concerti, which are among the most recorded and performed works in the baroque repertoire. This easy-to-read volume reprints, complete and unabridged, the master's seven complete concerti for solo keyboard and orchestra from the renowned Bach-Gesellschaft edition, still considered the primary source for Bach's music. Composed in Leipzig (c. 1735), these elegant works are almost completely based on earlier extant or lost concerti by Bach for violin and wind instruments. The concerti reproduced here in full score include Concerto in D Minor (BWV1052), Concerto in E Major (BWV 1053), Concerto in D Major (BWV 1054), Concerto in A Major (BWV 1055), Concerto in F Minor (BWV 1056), Concerto in F Major (BWV 1057), and Concerto in G Minor (BWV 1058). Musicians, students, and Bach devotees will applaud this clearly printed, wonderfully affordable playing edition of classic compositions by the supreme master of the baroque.

A contemporary of Bach, Handel, Scarlatti, and Telemann, Jean-Phillipe Rameau (1683-1764) was a notable theorist and innovator and the preeminent French composer of his day. The depth and power that characterize his music are in ample evidence in this volume of all 63 of Rameau's works for keyboard, published between 1706 and 1741, including such well-known pieces as "Musette en Rondeau," "Tambourin," "Les Niais de Sologne," "Les Cyclopes," and "La Poule." The music is reproduced here from the important and well-produced edition of Rameau's keyboard works edited by Camille Saint-Sa ns. Because the composer attempted to use his keyboard as a sustaining instrument, these pieces lend themselves especially well to performance on modern pianos. Now today's musicians can enjoy Rameau's complete oeuvre for solo keyboard in this inexpensive high-quality edition.

Domenico Scarlatti (1685-1757) is recognized by most scholars and musicians as the founder of modern keyboard technique. He referred to the hundreds of sonatas he composed as "an ingenious jesting with art." But in these "jests," the great baroque composer explored new worlds of virtuoso technique, and created works of dazzling originality that are considered the crowning achievements of his career. These exciting, briskly paced compositions are filled with virtuoso technical devices -- hand-crossing, rapid repetition of notes, extravagant arpeggios, and more -- that celebrate the dynamic and expressive potential of the keyboard. The 40 sonatas selected for this volume, the fourth in Dover's series devoted to Scarlatti's keyboard sonatas, are those numbered K436-477 in the Kirkpatrick edition (K452 and 453 were not included by Longo). They have been reprinted directly from Ricordi's monumental 11-volume set, edited by Alessandro Longo.

Автор: Sweelinck, Jan Pieterszoon Название: Works for Organ and Keyboard ISBN: 0486249352 ISBN-13(EAN): 9780486249353 Издательство: Dover Цена: 2293 р. Наличие на складе: Нет в наличии.
Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck (1562-1621) was among the most famous organists of seventeenth-century Europe and an influential composer in the Dutch and North German tradition. He composed over 300 choral and instrumental pieces that bridged Renaissance and Baroque styles and helped prepare the way for the music of Buxtehude, Scheidt, and J. S. Bach. Today, the Dutch composer is best remembered for the inventive, sparkling music he wrote for organ and other keyboard instruments. This remarkable treasury includes nearly all of Sweelinck's brilliant keyboard works, most of which have survived only in widely scattered seventeenth-century manuscripts. Reproduced from a clearly printed, thoroughly edited, and reliable 1943 critical edition, this volume contains important and innovative compositions heretofore difficult to find in a reasonably priced edition. The selections are divided into four principal sections (pieces playable on either organ or other keyboard; pieces for organ; pieces for keyboard; supplementary section) and include chorale variations notable for their double and triple counterpoint; toccatas and fantasias showing the influence of the Venetian organ school; and sets of variations on secular and dance tunes. Moreover, the supplement contains three incomplete and/or modified works and a fascinating, authentic fantasia by the great English composer John Bull. The fantasia was written in memoriam shortly after Sweelinck's death and was based on a now-lost fugue by the Netherlandish master. It remains the only testament to one of Sweelinck's finest works. In Sweelinck's day, the 73 classic compositions presented here were among Europe's most popular pieces for organ and keyboard. In our own time, these lovely instrumental works retain every bit of their original intensity and vigor. Reproduced in this authoritative complete-resource edition, they will be welcomed by serious keyboard artists, who will find them as praiseworthy today as they were when first known and played in Europe over 300 years ago.
