Описание:

Published continuously since 1972, Agricultural Product Prices has become the standard textbook and reference work for students in agricultural and applied economics, buyers and sellers of commodities, and policymakers, clearly explaining conceptual and empirical models applicable to agricultural product markets. The new fifth edition uses up-to-date information and models to explain the behavior of agricultural product prices. Topics include price differences over market levels (marketing margins), price differences over space (regionally and internationally) and by quality attributes, and price variability with the passage of time (seasonal and cyclical variations, trends, and random behavior).

William G. Tomek and Harry M. Kaiser review and adapt microeconomic principles to the characteristics of agricultural commodity markets and then apply these principles to the various dimensions of price behavior. They also provide an in-depth discussion of prices established for futures contracts and their relationship to cash (spot) market prices; cover the influential roles of price discovery institutions, such as auctions and negotiated contracts, and government policies regulating trade and farms; and discuss the specification, use, and evaluation of empirical models of agricultural prices, placing emphasis on the challenges of doing high-quality, useful analyses and interpreting results.

Описание:

Pennsylvania contained the largest concentration of early America’s abolitionist leaders and organizations, making it a necessary and illustrative stage from which to understand how national conversations about the place of free blacks in early America originated and evolved, and, importantly, the role that colonization—supporting the emigration of free and emancipated blacks to Africa—played in national and international antislavery movements. Beverly C. Tomek’s meticulous exploration of the archives of the American Colonization Society, Pennsylvania’s abolitionist societies, and colonizationist leaders (both black and white) enables her to boldly and innovatively demonstrate that, in Philadelphia at least, the American Colonization Society often worked closely with other antislavery groups to further the goals of the abolitionist movement.
In Colonization and Its Discontents, Tomek brings a much-needed examination of the complexity of the colonization movement by describing in depth the difference between those who supported colonization for political and social reasons and those who supported it for religious and humanitarian reasons. Finally, she puts the black perspective on emigration into the broader picture instead of treating black nationalism as an isolated phenomenon and examines its role in influencing the black abolitionist agenda.

Описание: Almost four years after the publication of the first comprehensive popular history of Eastern Europe, Tomek Jankowski returns with a much-needed second edition that, like the first, seeks to demystify Europe's elusive "other half." These years have seen the Ukraine War, Putin's resurgent Russia, a migration crisis, and a precarious future for the European Union. All this and more is now addressed in Eastern Europe Everything You Need to Know about the History (and More) of a Region That Shaped Our World and Still Does. Ideal for students, businesspeople, and those who simply want to know more about where Grandma or Grandpa came from.

Jankowski's book has been widely praised for its blend of easy-to-navigate detail--college course adoptions have ensued (much opportunity yet on this front)--and remarkably reader-friendly prose, which has seen it become popular also with a general audience as a new Cold War of sorts underway, with Eastern Europe again the focus of a resurgent Russia. This second edition promises even more of the same.
