Описание: The recent widespread availability of intraday tick-by-tick databases for stocks, options and currencies has had an important impact on research in applied financial econometrics and market microstructure. Econometric Modelling of Stock Market Intraday Activity focuses on the econometric modelling of intraday tick-by-tick transaction data (trades and quote) for stock traded on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). Recent quantitative modelling tools such as intraday duration models and GARCH modes are presented. A survey of trading mechanisms in financial markets and a review of market microstructure issues is also included, which allows to gain a better understanding of the motivation underlying the use of the quantitative models. In the empirical applications, the link is made with the models of the market microstructure literature that have proposed an explicit treatment of time in the trading process. Other empirical applications deal with the modelling of intraday volatility and intraday Value-at-Risk. Although the models are applied to data for stock traded on the NYSE, they are not specific to this exchange and could be used to analyze other existing trading mechanisms. Accordingly, this book should be of interest to academics and graduate students involved in empirical finance and applied econometrics, regulators working for exchanges, and practitioners in banks or brokerage firms.

Описание: The fascinating story behind the machines that trade trillions of dollars every day In 1968, Michael Goodkin is about to graduate from Columbia University. While his classmates interview for jobs, he daydreams of seeing the world as a man of independent means. Noticing that there are no computers on Wall Street and drawing on his experiences as a failed teenage investor and successful gambler, he has an epiphany: since no one knows the right price for anything, the only way to beat the market is to make a computer that comes up with the wrong answer faster than the professionals. And thus begins a journey that takes this provincial Midwesterner from nearly broke to opulent Park Avenue. The Wrong Answer Faster is the story of unintended consequences: how a technique originally created to minimize market risk spiraled into a multi-trillion dollar game with unparalleled risks. Having founded and sold a firm that changed the world, Goodkin left New York to travel and play backgammon--only to return to found another groundbreaking firm, Numerix, a software company that substituted computational physics for econometrics to better manage derivative risk. The story of the computerization of Wall Street by the man at the helm Packed with keen insights, based almost entirely on poker, backgammon and game theory Goodkin's unique insight to the markets is that everyone has the wrong answers The solution is not to try to beat the market but to come up with the wrong answers faster The epic tale of the untold story how one man with a great idea decided not to play the market but to revolutionize the financial world for generations to come by creating the most ground breaking tool for market players since the ticker tape.

Описание: The Greatest Trades of All Time will describe how top traders made huge profits during the most momentous market events of the past century. From the 1929 stock market crash to the 2008 subprime mortgage meltdown, this book will chronicle how a select few traders anticipated market eruptions and positioned themselves to reap huge profits. Traders and events discussed include Paul Tudor Jones, who shorted the stocks prior to October 19, 1987, the most severe one-day crash since 1929; George Soros, who made an estimated $1 billion shorting the British pound during a currency crisis in the 1990s; Jim Chanos, who spotted Enrons fraud early on and shorted the stock prior to its complete collapse; John Templeton, whos career was bracketed by two amazing trades: buying undervalued U.S. stocks near the end of the Depression, just prior to World War II, and shorting Internet stocks just prior to the collapse of the Internet bubble in 2001; John Paulson, who shorted subprime mortgages in 2008, capitalizing on the collapse of the U.S. housing bubble; and finally Jesse Livermore, who shorted stocks and made a fortune in the 1929 stock market crash. Author Veneziani will describe the economic and financial forces that led to each market catacylism and how these individual traders perceived what was happening beforehand and how they decided to place big bets, often at great risk and in opposition to consensus opinion at the time. This book will bring to life important historical moments in the financial markets and will provide contemporary traders and investors with insights on how great traders make great trades.
The definitive book on adapting the classic work of Richard Wyckoff to today's markets
Price and volume analysis is one of the most effective approaches to market analysis. It was pioneered by Richard Wyckoff, who worked on Wall Street during the golden age of technical analysis.
In "Trades About to Happen, " veteran trader David Weis explains how to utilize the principles behind Wyckoff's work and make effective trades with this method. Page by page, Weis clearly demonstrates how to construct intraday wave charts similar to Wyckoff's originals, draw support/resistance lines, interpret the struggle for dominance in trading ranges, and recognize action signals at turning points. Analyzes markets one bar chart at a time, which recreates the ambiguity of actual trading Emphasizes reading price/volume charts without a secondary reliance on mathematical indicators Includes a short study guide in the appendix to help readers master the material
Filled with in-depth insights and practical advice, "Trades About to Happen" promises to be the definitive work on utilizing Wyckoff's classic methods in today's turbulent markets.
