Описание: Along came Amedeo: A unique type of beauty In endless odes to the female form, Amedeo Modigliani (1884-1920) traced elongated bodies, almond eyes, and his own name into art history. His languid female subjects are as instantly recognizable as they arestartling, sensual, and swan-necked.Modiglianis unique figuration corresponded to his own personal idea of beauty, but drew upon a rich variety of visual influences, including contemporaryCubism, African carvings, Cambodian sculptures, and 13th century painting from his native Italy. Although most renowned for his nude females, he applied similar stylistic techniques to portraits of male artistic contemporaries such asPablo Picasso, Jean Cocteau, andChaim Soutine. With key works from his highly individualistic repertoire, this book introduces Modiglianis brief but revered career at the heart of Paris early modernist hotbed. About the Series: Each book in TASCHEN s Basic Art series features: a detailed chronological summary of the life and oeuvre of the artist, covering his or her cultural and historical importance a concise biography approximately 100 illustrations with explanatory captions

Описание: To contemporaries, Amedeo Modigliani was the very definition of Parisian Bohemia, the controversial darling and target of the popular press and the model on which many a novel, play and film was based. As an artist, the scandalous Modigliani made his name chiefly with his celebrated pictures of women, with almond eyes and long necks and bodies.

Описание: Amadeo Modigliani displays the dialogue that the young Italian artist maintained with antic and extra-Western sculptures from 1910 to 1914. It specifically highlights studies of heads and caryatides, and Modigliani's patient analysis work, such as modulating facial features. Health and financial conditions forced Modigliani to renounce sculpture in 1914. The second part features portraits of Modigliani's friends, also actors of the Parisian avant-garde from Picasso's circle, such as the writer Max Jacob, the merchant Paul Guillaume, Moise Kisling, Viking Eggeling, Jacques Lipchitz, Henri Laurens and Leopold Survage. Beyond friendship, these portraits reveal artistic exchanges, where painters and sculptors became Modigliani's models. In his last years, Modigliani perfected his portrait's style, which made him successful: the frame widens, his palette lightens under the influence of Cezanne. In 1918, he met Dutilleul, who purchased around thirty of his paintings and numerous drawings between 1918 and 1946 and posed as his model in 1919.

Описание: Famous for his elongated forms, graceful portraits and lush nudes, Amedeo Modigliani (1884-1920) is among the most loved of the extraordinary group of international artists who lived in Montparnasse in the early 20th century. Accompanying the first major Modigliani exhibition in the US in over 40 years, the book moves beyond the romantic myths that have sprung up around the artist's tragically brief life, aiming to provide a fuller, richer understanding of his art as well as the role of Montparnasse in the development of modern art. In addition to 64 paintings, sculptures and drawings by Modigliani, the volume features works by other Montparnasse artists such as Brancusi, de Chirico, Soutine and Picasso. The book also includes excerpts from a novelette written by one of Modigliani's lovers about their experiences together. This volume provides a serious examination of Modigliani's work with fresh documentation.
