Описание: Before the development of lasers, all available light sources, whether used in laboratories or found in nature, generated light which underwent uncontrollable fluctuations inherent in the emission process. Such fluctuations are detrimental to many applications. This effect is almost completely suppressed in laser radiation, making it possible to use lasers for a variety of applications. The underlying theory of fluctuating optical fields is known as coherence theory. Another manifestation of the fluctuations is the so-called phenomenon of polarization. This book is the first to provide a unified treatment of these two aspects of statistical optics, made possible by very recent discoveries, largely due to the author of this book. This will be of great interest to graduate students and researchers in physics and engineering in optical communications, the propagation of laser beams through fibers and through the turbulent atmosphere, and optical image formation. Each chapter contains problems to aid self-study.
Описание: The purpose of economic evaluation is to inform decisions intended to improve healthcare. The new edition of Methods for the Economic Evaluation of Health Care Programmes equips the reader with the essential hands-on experience to undertake evaluations, providing a `tool kit` based on the authors own experience of undertaking economic evaluations.
Автор: Becketti Название: Introduction to Time Series Using Stata ISBN: 1597181323 ISBN-13(EAN): 9781597181327 Издательство: Taylor&Francis Рейтинг: Цена: 7732 р. Наличие на складе: Есть у поставщика Поставка под заказ.
Описание: Introduction to Time Series Using Stata provides a step-by-step guide to essential timeseries techniques—from the incredibly simple to the quite complex—and, at the same time, demonstrates how these techniques can be applied in the Stata statistical package. The emphasis is on an understanding of the intuition underlying theoretical innovations and an ability to apply them. Real-world examples illustrate the application of each concept as it is introduced, and care is taken to highlight the pitfalls, as well as the power, of each new tool.
Описание: This book provides a comprehensive set of instructions and examples of how to perform a cost-benefit analysis (CBA) of a health intervention, with a particular focus on the use of stated preference survey methods to identify consumer preference data and the use of recent developments in cost-effectiveness analysis within a CBA framework.

Описание: A comprehensive introduction to both statistical methods and Stata, this text helps beginners learn the logic of data analysis and interpretation and easily become self-sufficient data analysts. It also offers tips and tricks for readers already familiar with Stata. Step by step, the book leads readers through the entire process of data analysis, covering the principles of Stata, data manipulation, graphical representation, and programs to automate repetitive tasks. This third edition also explores advanced topics such as standard errors in complex survey and multiple imputation.
Описание: With amusing anecdotes and trivia, this text explains how statistical methods are used for data analysis and uses the elementary functions of R to perform the individual steps of statistical procedures. It introduces basic concepts of inference through a careful study of several important procedures, including parametric and nonparametric methods, analysis of variance, and regression. The text also presents many applications, supporting data sets, and end-of-chapter exercises. The R code and data sets are available for download online and a solutions manual is available for qualifying instructors.
Описание: This text presents a balanced blend of quantitative research methods, and the most widely used techniques for collecting and analysing data in the health sciences. Highly practical in nature, the book guides you, step-by-step, through the research process, and covers both the consumption and the production of research and data analysis.
Описание: Point processes and random measures find wide applicability in telecommunications, earthquakes, image analysis, spatial point patterns, and stereology, to name but a few. The authors have made a major reshaping of their classic work published in 1988. It will be a standard reference for researchs and graduate students in pure and applied probability.
John Mather s seminal works in Hamiltonian dynamics represent some of the most important contributions to our understanding of the complex balance between stable and unstable motions in classical mechanics. His novel approach known as Aubry-Mather theory singles out the existence of special orbits and invariant measures of the system, which possess a very rich dynamical and geometric structure. In particular, the associated invariant sets play a leading role in determining the global dynamics of the system. This book provides a comprehensive introduction to Mather s theory, and can serve as an interdisciplinary bridge for researchers and students from different fields seeking to acquaint themselves with the topic.
Starting with the mathematical background from which Mather s theory was born, Alfonso Sorrentino first focuses on the core questions the theory aims to answer notably the destiny of broken invariant KAM tori and the onset of chaos and describes how it can be viewed as a natural counterpart of KAM theory. He achieves this by guiding readers through a detailed illustrative example, which also provides the basis for introducing the main ideas and concepts of the general theory. Sorrentino then describes the whole theory and its subsequent developments and applications in their full generality.
Shedding new light on John Mather s revolutionary ideas, this book is certain to become a foundational text in the modern study of Hamiltonian systems."
Описание: Inverse scattering theory has been a particularly active and successful field in applied mathematics and engineering for the past twenty years. The increasing demands of imaging and target identification require new powerful and flexible techniques besides the existing weak scattering approximation or nonlinear optimization methods. One class of such methods comes under the general description of qualitative methods in inverse scattering theory. This textbook is an easily-accessible "class-tested" introduction to the field. It is accessible also to readers who are not professional mathematicians, thus making these new mathematical ideas in inverse scattering theory available to the wider scientific and engineering community.
