Описание: Third Edition This is the inspiring account of Carol Wellmans journey to personal freedom through long distance hiking. Her adventures- hiking thousands of miles (mostly alone) from Mexico to Canada, through the Mojave Desert and the High Sierra, and then in the Appalachian Mountains from Georgia to Maine-are the catalyst for overcoming her past. When she wasnt hiking, she designed ultralight backpacking gear; award winning gear that has been acclaimed not only nationally but internationally as well. She shares her ultralight hiking expertise here, as well as some of her designs and sewing techniques. There are detailed instructions for making 12 important gear items, including her 9 ounce silnylon backpack. She also includes her latest gear list (with weights) and information on resupply and ultralight hiking in winter. Written in 2003, this book serves as a benchmark for serious, present day ultralighters. Wellman truely has been a pioneer in her field. I picked up Brawnys book with some mixed feelings. But you know, now I cant put it down Im SO impressed by her. She did her hikes on a shoestring budget by making/modifying most of her gear. She took responsibility for her own happiness, and she rebuilt a life as full and rich as I could ever hope to have --J.W. My copies of Brawnys book arrived Thursday. Most excellent. I have not finished reading yet, but very much like the style in which it is written. Some books have a feeling that the author is trying to make you like what they are writing so what is presented is subject to skepticism, but all I feel from Brawnys book is genuine. I enjoyed some of the insights which were either not noted in her journals, or reflected on again from a slightly different perspective (maybe with hot coffee in a real mug, with real food simmering on a stove, and possibly rain OUTSIDE, lol). Even though I have read Brawnys journals and knew some of the information, I still enjoyed reading it again. I am only sad that when I finish the book, I will have finished it Sort of like running out of trail on a long hike, I would think. Anyway, thank you for putting your experiences into a good read. -- Joanne Feige I have just finished reading, and very thoroughly enjoying, Brawny Wellmans great new book, My Journey to Freedom & Ultralight Backpacking. I very highly recommend it to all. Read about it here: http: //www.trailquest.net/dlgcmyjourney.html Its a great read, for many reasons. Mainly, shes a power-hiker who has logged 5000 miles in the last 3 years, carrying mostly homemade gear, and thru tremendous attention to detail, has truly refined her gear & methods of ultralighting. Brawnys sentiments on the whys of long-distance hiking, her treatment of, and definitions of the journey, are themselves worth the price of admission. Get a copy today, before it makes Oprahs list and gets discovered. -- Brian in Oregon I got the book on friday, and read almost all of it over the weekend. Really interesting to read. Brawny she has put together a very interesting, helpful book; and good to read trailstories, nice nature descriptions, and all the tips. A superb combination. A book, one has to read, if he/she is interested in (ultra)lightweight-hiking. And congratulations to Brawny, that she can enjoy her life now. My mother took almost 20 years after her divorce to free herself mentally from her unhappy marriage. --Harald Loeffel, Austria

Описание:

Tells the riveting narrative of the growth, disappearance, and eventual rediscovery of one of the largest free black communities of the nineteenth century
In 1966 a group of students, Boy Scouts, and local citizens rediscovered all that remained of a then virtually unknown community called Weeksville: four frame houses on Hunterfly Road. The infrastructure and vibrant history of Weeksville, an African American community that had become one of the largest free black communities in nineteenth century United States, were virtually wiped out by Brooklyn’s exploding population and expanding urban grid.
Weeksville was founded by African American entrepreneurs after slavery ended in New York State in 1827. Located in eastern Brooklyn, Weeksville provided a space of physical safety, economic prosperity, education, and even political power for its black population, who organized churches, a school, orphan asylum, home for the aged, newspapers, and the national African Civilization Society. Notable residents of Weeksville, such as journalist and educator Junius P. Morell, participated in every major national effort for African American rights, including the Civil War.
Drawing on maps, newspapers, census records, photographs, and the material culture of buildings and artifacts, Wellman reconstructs the social history and national significance of this extraordinary place. Through the lens of this local community, Brooklyn’s Promised Land highlights themes still relevant to African Americans across the country.

Описание: The adventures of a renowned American fighter pilot-in his own words

After initially enlisting as an ambulance driver during the Great War, American born Wellman transferred into the French Foreign Legion. By the end of 1917 he had earned his wings as a fighter pilot and had joined N. 87 escadrille of the Lafayette Flying Corps. The 'Black Cats' flew Nieuport 'pursuit' aircraft-first 17s and latterly 24s. Wellman named his own plane Celia-after his mother. In his career as a fighter pilot Wellman chalked up three confirmed 'kills' and five 'probables' before eventually being shot down by German anti-aircraft fire in March 1918. He was awarded the Croix de Guerre with two palms. Due to his crash injury he was invalided out of French service and returned to the United States where he began a highly regarded career as a film director. This book, published in 1918, recounts Wellman's wartime experiences while they were still fresh in the mind, as such it is an invaluable first hand account of the aerial war over the Western Front from the first days of air combat. Recommended.

Описание: Use a reasoned way to study the Old Testament by following the direction given to us in the New Testament by Jesus and his followers. What Christians call the Old Testament isTHE BIBLE JESUS LOVEDIn the New Testament Jesus never once quotes the Old Testament book of prophet Ezekiel-a book of 40,000 words. Yet Jesus quotes the book of prophet Hosea, a mere 5000 words, not once but twice Nearly half of all His quotes are from Isaiah and the Psalms. If His quotes from the Pentateuch and the 'Twelve' minor prophets are also included, this accounts for fully 95 percent of His quotes from the Old Testament Yes, there is clearly a Bible Jesus Loved Learn which books Jesus loved. Find out the favorite books of Paul and the other followers of Jesus. Study the Old Testament by following the direction given to us in the New Testament by Jesus and his followers.
