This book is a compilation of the loose petitions, oaths, letters, and other papers of the winners in Georgia's seven Land Lotteries. These winners and/or their heirs are NOT included in ANY of the other Land Lottery Books. These loose papers were omitted from the other land lottery books as their whereabouts were unknown when they were being compiled. These records were shoved into a box as single pages of old loose papers in the basement of the archives. This volume contains information on more than 3,000 individuals.

This is the sixth of the land lotteries held in Georgia. This land lottery divided up the land of the former Cherokee Indian Country in 1832. This land area was divided into the present counties of: Cass (renamed Bartow in 1861), Cherokee, Cobb, Floyd, Forsyth, Gilmer, Lumpkin, Murray, Paulding, and Union. This volume contains the names of over 27,000 fortunate drawers or persons who drew land in these counties, together with their county of residence at the time of said lottery. There are some 60 maps showing each county and district, helping a person to better locate the exact location of an ancestors land.

The original 1976 edition was arranged alphabetically by counties and the alphabetically by surname, making it extremely difficult to use when searching a given individual or surname. Southern Historical Press has completely revised this book, arranging all persons listed in alphabetical order by surname, making this book now much easier to use. The gold lots are found in present-day: Union Lumpkin, Forsyth, Cherokee, Cobb, Paulding, Cass, and Floyd counties. The Index for this volume contains the names of approximately 41,000 fortunate drawers.
In his early twenties Edgar Thomson moved from Philadelphia to Georgia to become the Chief Engineer of the newly-formed Georgia Rail Road. Thomson was in complete control of the building of the railroad from Augusta to Terminus, soon to be Atlanta. Ninety-five percent of this book is fact, with the other five percent added to connect the dots. Thomson could have amassed a fortune to match his famous cronies, but he was not a greedy man; he was quiet, gentle, and humble. Few people in Georgia know Thomson's story. Here is the Georgia Rail Road and the Edgar Thomson story from 1833 through 1845.
All proceeds of this book benefit the Thomson-McDuffie Museum, Thomson GA.
