Описание: This review is focused on controlled/living radical polymerization methods for the preparation of various copolymers. A brief introduction to the subject of radical polymerization, and early attempts to control it, is followed by a detailed examination of the literautre on controlled/living radical copolymerizations from the mid-90's until 2001. The topics covered include statistical/gradient, block, graft, and star copolymers and the polymerization methods used to produce them. These copolymers were prepared using three major controlled radical methods (either nitroxide mediated polymerization, atom transfer radical polymerization or degenerative transfer) and a combination of polymerization techniques, including transformation chemistry or the simultaneous/dual living polymerizations, to achieve the desired chain architecture or topology. An evaluation of the current state of the field is also presented.

Описание: The purpose of this textbook is to teach senior or graduate-level students and practitioners how to quantitatively model step-growth polymerization plants and predict the properties of the product polymer. The book attempts to capture the quantitative relationships between key process input variables (KPIVs) and key process output variables (KPOVs), and focuses on the integrated modeling of an entire polymer manufacturing train (including reactors, separators, recycle coolers/condensers, etc.), not merely reactors alone. To model such a wide range of unit operations, the book integrates all of our fundamental models of physical and thermodynamic properties, phase equilibrium, polymerization kinetics, heat- and mass-transfer limitations, together with predictive or empirical models of polymer end-use properties and computer-aided design tools. After studying the text and working through the design examples, the reader should be able to quantitatively model their plants using either a custom simulation written entirely by the model developer or Aspen Technologys commercial simulation packages, Polymers Plus and Aspen Custom Modeler. To enhance the presentation of this very diverse subject, the author's organized the book into three parts. Part I teaches the fundamentals of step-growth polymer process modeling and product design.
