The New Left was a broad, heterogeneous, transnational, anti-systemic movement of movements which pursued the radical transformation of power structures during the 1960s and the early 1970s. Its activists opposed all forms of oppression – class, racial, gender and so forth – and strove for the redistribution of power on a global scale. Their ideas fuelled the intense cycles of protest of the period and allowed for symbolically connecting movements all over the world.
This book reconstructs the dissemination of the characteristic ideas and traits of the New Left by analysing its most prominent magazines and journals. Through the analysis of US, European and Latin American publications, it reveals how the ideological framework of the New Left was conceived and disseminated by a series of critical communities of activists and intellectuals who communicated and debated across borders. The result of the joint efforts of a group of eminent specialists and young scholars from seven different countries, this pioneering work contributes valuable empirical evidence to the study of the processes of intellectual change occurring throughout the twentieth century.

Maria Todorova's book is devoted to the 'golden age' of the socialist idea, broadly surveying the period in and around the time of the Second International. It critically examines the promise for an alternative socialist utopia from 1870 to the 1920s. Todorova brings in the experience of the periphery in a comparative context in the belief that the margins can often elucidate better the character of a phenomenon, and de-provincialize it from essentialist notions. In doing so, The Lost World of Socialists at Europe's Margins moves beyond the traditional historiographical emphasis on ideology by looking at different intersections or entanglements of spaces, generations, genders, ideas and feelings, and different flows of historical time.
The study provides a social and cultural history of early socialism in Eastern Europe with an emphasis on Bulgaria, arguably the country with the earliest and strongest socialist movement in Southeast Europe, and one that had a unique relationship to both German and Russian social democracy. Based on a rich prosopographical database of around 3500 biographies of people born in the 19th century, the book addresses the interplay of several generations of leftists, looking at the specifics of how ideas were generated, received, transferred and transformed. Finally, the work investigates the intersection between subjectivity and memory as reflected in a unique cache of archival materials containing over 4000 documentary sources including diaries, oral interviews, and unpublished memoirs. A microhistorical approach to this material allows the reconstruction of 'structures of feeling' that inspired an exceptional group of individuals.
Описание: UNMASKED2020 is a collection of commentaries on the government's executive and legislative actions during the historic 2020 session of the Colorado General Assembly. The 2019 legislative session had produced much equally radical legislation, like the knee-capping of the oil and gas industry in Senate Bill 181, but the 2020 session was more dramatic and arrogant in the rapid acceleration of Progressives' radical agenda. This occurred through an unprecedented confluence of events:
the arrival in March of the malevolent Wuhan virus and the resulting declaration of a public health emergency by the governor;
the cataclysmic economic meltdown stemming from Governor Polis's shut-down orders in response to the pandemic;
the ten-week legislative recess, pushing the normal 120-day session into mid-June;
the severe multi-year budget crisis resulting from the Governor's shutdown orders; and
nightly riots on the Capitol grounds, continuing for weeks and affecting the work hours, the safety of legislators and employees, and not-so-subtly influencing the legislative agenda.
When reading the contributions offered by the authors, two things need to be kept in mind.
First, the book is an anthology: each individual chapter presents the views and judgments of the specific author on the subjects and controversies discussed in that chapter. The fifteen authors do not necessarily agree with all of the views presented by the other contributors.
The book is not a policy manifesto, and it does not attempt to cover every aspect of the 2020 session of the legislature. Authors evaluate several major actions which are characteristic of the session and will have serious impacts on Coloradans' lives and liberties for decades.
What the book does attempt to do is sound a wakeup call. By "unmasking" the deeply troublesome radicalism and dishonesty behind a media-driven narrative that misleads the citizenry, the authors hope to interrupt and help reverse Colorado's downhill rush to a California-style apocalypse. Time is short to halt Colorado's slide into a civic chaos where the "Rule of Law" is no longer respected.

Описание: In Jean Baudrillard and Radical Education Theory: Turning Right to Go Left, the authors argue that Baudrillard has been underappreciated in philosophical and theoretical work in education. They introduce him here as an important figure in radical thought who has something to add to theoretical lines of inquiry in education.
The book does not offer an introduction to Baudrillard. Rather, his corpus is mined in order to describe how it functions as a counter to the code of education, rational thought, critical reason, etc. In effect, they establish that Baudrillard advocates for a counter-path to thinking that can shake us out of our ready-made thoughts and realize the radical potential for change.
