Professor Munk is probably alone in his method of criticismwhile some have cited certain hesitations regarding the usefulness of these double negative metamaterials given their loss and dispersion, and others have done numerical simulations that seem to support Professor Munk's conclusions, Professor Munk has written a comprehensive theoretical electromagnetic investigation of the issues. He has reached the conclusion that many of the phenomena claimed by researchers may be impossible. His view, while controversial, has recently received support by various numerical simulations. Significantly, Professor Munk also provides a convincing alternative explanation involving surface waves to some of the experimental examples shown in the literature. Again, while the debate on this subject is just starting, Professor Munk has convinced many of us in the antenna field with his arguments that a large majority of his conclusions are correct and his views should be aired. The issues that he raises have not been addressed thoroughly by the metamaterials community, and this book should be the catalyst to much healthy discussion. Therefore, this book may well become a classic text. It took courage to write it, which can be done only by someone of Professor Munk's stature.
