Описание: This book offers a unifed approach to tasks used in the education of secondary mathematics teachers, based on broad goals such as adaptability, identifying similarities, productive disposition, overcoming barriers, micro simulations, choosing tools, and more.
Описание: 'What one takes away from this book is the notion that there (TM)s a lot of potential to do more with these students, and the book stands as a resource for anyone who shares that opinion ... Books like Abramovich (TM)s are a welcome addition to our options as we try to do our best by these students, and by extension, their future students.'MAA ReviewsThe book is written to enhance the preparation of elementary teacher candidates by offering teaching ideas conducive to the development of deep understanding of concepts fundamental to the mathematics curriculum they are to teach. It intends to show how the diversity of teaching methods stems from the knowledge of mathematics content and how the appreciation of this diversity opens a window to the teaching of extended content. The book includes material that the author would have shared with teacher candidates should there have been more instructional time than a 3 credit hour master's level course, 'Elementary Mathematics: Content and Methods', provides. Thus the book can supplement a basic textbook for such a course by extending content and diversifying methods. Also, the book can support graduate level mathematics education programs which have problem-solving seminars/courses in their curriculum. The book is well-informed with (available in English) the mathematical standards and recommendations for teachers from Australia, Canada, Chile, England, Japan, Korea, Singapore, and the United States.

Описание: This book responds to the growing interest in the scholarship of mathematics teaching; over the last 20 years the importance of teachers` knowledge for effective teaching has been internationally recognised.
Описание: The teaching and learning of mathematics in Alberta - one of three Canadian provinces sharing a border with Montana - has a long and storied history. An integral part of the past 50 years (1962-2012) of this history has been delta-K: Journal of the Mathematics Council of the Alberta Teachers' Association. This volume, which presents ten memorable articles from each of the past five decades, that is, 50 articles from the past 50 years of the journal, provides an opportunity to share this rich history with a wide range of individuals interested in the teaching and learning of mathematics and mathematics education. Each decade begins with an introduction, providing a historical context, and concludes with a commentary from a prominent member of the Alberta mathematics education community. As a result, this monograph provides a historical account as well as a contemporary view of many of the trends and issues in the teaching and learning of mathematics. This volume is meant to serve as a resource for a variety of individuals, including teachers of mathematics, mathematics teacher educators, mathematics education researchers, historians, and undergraduate and graduate students. Most importantly, this volume is a celebratory retrospective on the work of the Mathematics Council of the Alberta Teachers' Association.

Описание: 'The exposition is exceptionally clear, and keeps its audience in mind: in the end, this is a book for adults on mathematics for children (TM). Adults (TM) here includes parents as well as teachers; in the author (TM)s words, Every parent is automatically an educator (TM) There is considerable merit in including parents in the elementary mathematics conversation; it is a pleasure to see books like Kupferman (TM)s that explain elementary math to adults. If our students, in their future role as teachers, can enlist parents as allies, everyone will benefit. These books are one good way to begin addressing that challenge.'MAA ReviewsThis book covers the elementary school mathematics curriculum common in most parts of the world. Its aim is to serve educators (teachers and parents) as a guide for teaching mathematics at elementary school level. The book focuses both on content knowledge and on pedagogical content knowledge. It bridges the gap between fundamental mathematical principles and good teaching practices. It also offers the reader a glimpse on how mathematicians perceive elementary mathematics and presents ideas for specific mathematical activities.Volume 2 focuses on content taught in the higher grades of elementary school. It covers the following topics: multiplication and division of multi-digit numbers, divisibility and primality, divisibility signs, sequences, fractions and their representations, and fraction arithmetic. The author is also a co-founder of Matific, an adaptive game-based teaching and learning tool for primary school mathematics. Independent studies have shown Matific to improve test scores, reduce maths anxiety, and increase motivation. Matific is available in 26 languages and aligned to mathematics curricula in 46 countries. Awards include Best Mathematics Instructional Solution, Best Game-Based Curriculum Solution and Best Educational App. For a trial, visit https: //www.matific.com.
