Описание: Angiogenesis is a multi-stage process that drives the generation of new blood and lymphatic vessels from pre-existing ones. It is highly active during embryogenesis, largely inactive during adulthood but reactivated during wound healing and under a number of pathological conditions including cancer and ocular diseases. In addition to endothelial cells, which line the walls of the vessels, several other cell types (pericytes, macrophages, progenitor cells…) also contribute to angiogenesis. A number of signaling pathways are activated and very finely tune the delicate morphogenetic events that ultimately lead to the formation of stable blood proof neovessels. This book reviews recent advances in our understanding of the molecular and cellular mechanisms of angiogenesis, with a focus on how to integrate these observations into the context of developmental, post-natal and pathological neovascularization. The book was published under the auspices of the French Angiogenesis Society. Most contributors are prominent members of this Society or international researchers who have actively contributed to the Annual Meetings of the Society.

Описание: The induction of blood vessel growth as part of an adaptive process can be either exaggerated, such as in tumors, or too slow, as in ischemic diseases of heart and brain. Therefore it is an interesting target for medical intervention. This volume presents a thorough reconsideration of our current knowledge of factors and principles involved in angiogenic processes. It proceeds from a "macroscopic " perspective through cellular and physical mechanisms to the molecular level . In the first part, angiogenesis in physiological as well as pathological processes is described with a focus on embryogenesis, the reproductive system and the growing heart. The second part deals with cellular and physical mechanisms leading to angiogenesis, and the last part presents a deeper insight into molecular mechanisms of blood vessel growth, including knockout studies of essential angiogenic molecules, the identification of signaling steps in angiogenesis and the importance of cellular junctions.

Описание: This book provides a comprehensive, in-depth review of our current understanding of the growth of blood vessels within the eye. The book emphasizes basic principles rather than specific experimental results, although recently acquired data is frequently cited to illustrate points of broader theoretical significance.
Описание: This book reviews and discusses knowledge gathered on Metabolic Syndrome and analyzes the interplay between oxidative stress, chronic inflammation and angiogenesis features. It focuses on recent discoveries and progress toward possible therapeutic strategies.

Описание: In 1971, J. Folkman hypothesized that tumor growth is angiogenesis-dependent. In 2004, the FDA approved the first angiogenesis inhibitor. This book compiles the relevant literature of that history and emphasizes the antiangiogenic approach to treat tumors.
Описание: Exploring the critical role of angiogenesis in tumor progression and metastasis, this book features the latest and most promising anti-angiogenesis molecules now being deployed in the battle against hematological malignancies such as leukemia and lymphoma.
