Описание: This unique textbook/reference presents unified coverage of bioinformatics topics relating to both biological sequences and biological networks, providing an in-depth analysis of cutting-edge distributed algorithms, as well as of relevant sequential algorithms. In addition to introducing the latest algorithms in this area, more than fifteen new distributed algorithms are also proposed. Topics and features: reviews a range of open challenges in biological sequences and networks; describes in detail both sequential and parallel/distributed algorithms for each problem; suggests approaches for distributed algorithms as possible extensions to sequential algorithms, when the distributed algorithms for the topic are scarce; proposes a number of new distributed algorithms in each chapter, to serve as potential starting points for further research; concludes each chapter with self-test exercises, a summary of the key points, a comparison of the algorithms described, and a literature review.
Описание: This book provides an up-to-date review of the general principles of and techniques for confirmatory adaptive designs. Confirmatory adaptive designs are a generalization of group sequential designs. With these designs, interim analyses are performed in order to stop the trial prematurely under control of the Type I error rate. In adaptive designs, it is also permissible to perform a data-driven change of relevant aspects of the study design at interim stages. This includes, for example, a sample-size reassessment, a treatment-arm selection or a selection of a pre-specified sub-population. Essentially, this adaptive methodology was introduced in the 1990s. Since then, it has become popular and the object of intense discussion and still represents a rapidly growing field of statistical research. This book describes adaptive design methodology at an elementary level, while also considering designing and planning issues as well as methods for analyzing an adaptively planned trial. This includes estimation methods and methods for the determination of an overall p-value. Part I of the book provides the group sequential methods that are necessary for understanding and applying the adaptive design methodology supplied in Parts II and III of the book. The book contains many examples that illustrate use of the methods for practical application. The book is primarily written for applied statisticians from academia and industry who are interested in confirmatory adaptive designs. It is assumed that readers are familiar with the basic principles of descriptive statistics, parameter estimation and statistical testing. This book will also be suitable for an advanced statistical course for applied statisticians or clinicians with a sound statistical background.

Описание: This book presents the first comprehensive account of fast sequential Monte Carlo (SMC) methods for counting and optimization at an exceptionally accessible level. Written by authorities in the field, it places great emphasis on cross-entropy, minimum cross-entropy, splitting, and stochastic enumeration.
Описание: This monograph is a treatise on adjustment processes. We consider price adjustment processes in exchange economies and strategy adjustment processes in noncooperative games. The advantage of the adjustment processes we will present in this monograph is that they exist and converge under far weaker assumptions than existing processes.

Описание: The modern theory of Sequential Analysis came into existence simultaneously in the United States and Great Britain in response to demands for more efficient sampling inspection procedures during World War II.
Описание: This book explores widely used seasonaladjustment methods and recent developments in real time trend-cycle estimation. It discusses in detail the properties and limitations of X12ARIMA, TRAMO-SEATSand STAMP - the main seasonal adjustment methods used by statistical agencies. Several real-world cases illustrate eachmethod and real data examples can be followed throughout the text. Thetrend-cycle estimation is presented using nonparametric techniques based onmoving averages, linear filters and reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces, takingrecent advances into account. The book provides a systematical treatment ofresults that to date have been scattered throughout the literature.Seasonal adjustment and real timetrend-cycle prediction play an essential part at all levels of activity inmodern economies. They are used by governments to counteract cyclicalrecessions, by central banks to control inflation, by decision makers forbetter modeling and planning and by hospitals, manufacturers, builders, transportation, and consumers in general to decide on appropriate action. This book appeals to practitioners ingovernment institutions, finance and business, macroeconomists, and other professionalswho use economic data as well as academic researchers in time series analysis, seasonal adjustment methods, filtering and signal extraction. It is also usefulfor graduate and final-year undergraduate courses in econometrics and timeseries with a good understanding of linear regression and matrix algebra, aswell as ARIMA modelling.
Описание: This book highlights a new direction of multiobjective optimization. It introduces sophisticated methods for sequential approximate multiobjective optimization using computational intelligence along with real applications, mainly engineering problems.
