Our aim is to extend the homological notions to deeply non-abelian situations, where satellites and spectral sequences can still be studied.This is a sequel of a book on 'Homological Algebra, The interplay of homology with distributive lattices and orthodox semigroups', published by the same Editor, but can be read independently of the latter.The previous book develops homological algebra in p-exact categories, i.e. exact categories in the sense of Puppe and Mitchell -- a moderate generalisation of abelian categories that is nevertheless crucial for a theory of 'coherence' and 'universal models' of (even abelian) homological algebra. The main motivation of the present, much wider extension is that the exact sequences or spectral sequences produced by unstable homotopy theory cannot be dealt with in the previous framework.According to the present definitions, a semiexact category is a category equipped with an ideal of 'null' morphisms and provided with kernels and cokernels with respect to this ideal. A homological category satisfies some further conditions that allow the construction of subquotients and induced morphisms, in particular the homology of a chain complex or the spectral sequence of an exact couple.Extending abelian categories, and also the p-exact ones, these notions include the usual domains of homology and homotopy theories, e.g. the category of 'pairs' of topological spaces or groups; they also include their codomains, since the sequences of homotopy 'objects' for a pair of pointed spaces or a fibration can be viewed as exact sequences in a homological category, whose objects are actions of groups on pointed sets.

Описание: While in classical (abelian) homological algebra additive functors from abelian (or additive) categories to abelian categories are investigated, non- abelian homological algebra deals with non-additive functors and their homological properties, in particular with functors having values in non-abelian categories. Such functors haveimportant applications in algebra, algebraic topology, functional analysis, algebraic geometry and other principal areas of mathematics. To study homological properties of non-additive functors it is necessary to define and investigate their derived functors and satellites. It will be the aim of this book based on the results of researchers of A. Razmadze Mathematical Institute of the Georgian Academy of Sciences devoted to non-abelian homological algebra. The most important considered cases will be functors from arbitrary categories to the category of modules, group valued functors and commutative semigroup valued functors. In Chapter I universal sequences of functors are defined and in- vestigated with respect to (co)presheaves of categories, extending in a natural way the satellites of additive functors to the non-additive case and generalizing the classical relative homological algebra in additive categories to arbitrary categories. Applications are given in the furth- coming chapters. Chapter II is devoted to the non-abelian derived functors of group valued functors with respect to projective classes using projective pseu- dosimplicial resolutions. Their functorial properties (exactness, Milnor exact sequence, relationship with cotriple derived functors, satellites and Grothendieck cohomology, spectral sequence of an epimorphism, degree of an arbitrary functor) are established and applications to ho- mology and cohomology of groups are given.

Описание: Five years ago, I taught a one-quarter course in homological algebra. I discovered that there was no book which was really suitable as a text for such a short course, so I decided to write one. The point was to cover both Ext and Tor early, and still have enough material for a larger course (one semester or two quarters) going off in any of several possible directions. This book is 'also intended to be readable enough for independent study. The core of the subject is covered in Chapters 1 through 3 and the first two sections ofChapter 4. At that point there are several options. Chapters 4 and 5 cover the more traditional aspects of dimension and ring changes. Chapters 6 and 7 cover derived functors in general. Chapter 8 focuses on a special property of Tor. These three groupings are independent, as are various sections from Chapter 9, which is intended as a source of special topics. (The prerequisites for each section of Chapter 9 are stated at the beginning.) Some things have been included simply because they are hard to find else- where, and they naturally fit into the discussion. Lazard's theorem (Section 8.4)-is an example; Sections4,5, and 7ofChapter 9 containother examples, as do the appendices at the end.
