Описание: The Human Brain in Dissection will significantly update the previous edition published in 1988. The last 20 years have sen a significant shift in the way that neuroanatomy is taught in both undergraduate and graduate neuroscience courses, as well as doctorate courses: not only has the time allocated for these courses been reduced, but the methodologies for teaching have become more focused and specific due to these time constraints. The Human Brain in Dissection, Third Edition will provide detailed features of the human brain with the above limitations in mind. 50 new plates will be added to the existing 123 in order to permit the student to see all salient structures and to visualize microscopic structures of the brain stem and spinal cord. Each chapter will cover a specific are of the human brain in such a way that each chapter can be taught in one two-hour neuroanatomy course. New to this edition is the inclusion of a section in each chapter on clinically relevant examples. Each chapter will also include a specific laboratory exercise. And finally, the author has included a question and answer section that is relevant to the USMLE, as as recommended readings, neither of which were included in the previous editions. This new edition of The Human Brain in Dissection will allow the student to: understand basic principles of cellular neuroscience; learn gross and microscopic anatomy of the central nervous system (Brain, brainstem, and spinal cord); relate the anatomy of central neural pathways to specific functional systems; be able to localize and name a CNS legion when presented with neurological symptoms, and appreciate higher cortical functions and how they relate to the practice of neurology. neuroscience

Описание: In this day where research grants are the primary focus, many young investigators are thrown into neurosciences courses without any prior preparation in neuroanatomy. This book is designed to help prepare them by introducing many of the fundamentals of the nervous system. It represents the essentials of an upper level biology course on the central nervous system. It is not designed to be a clinical approach to the nervous system, but rather it approaches the nervous system from a basic science perspective that intertwines both structure and function as an organizing teaching and learning model. Medical and dental examples are included but the main focus is on neuroscience.

Описание: Connections define the functions of neurons: information flows along connections, as well as growth factors and viruses, and even neuronal death may progress through connections. Knowledge of how the various parts of the brain are interconnected to form functional systems is a prerequisite for the proper understanding of data from all fields in the neurosciences. Clinical Neuroanatomy: Brain Circuitry and Its Disorders bridges the gap between neuroanatomy and clinical neurology. It emphasizes human and primate data in the context of disorders of brain circuitry which are so common in neurological practice. In addition, numerous clinical cases demonstrate how normal brain circuitry may be interrupted and to what effect. Following an introduction into the organization and vascularisation of the human brain and the techniques to study brain circuitry, the main neurofunctional systems are discussed, including the somatosensory, auditory, visual, motor, autonomic and limbic systems, the cerebral cortex and complex cerebral functions.

Описание: A streamlined, comprehensive synopsis of neuroanatomy and its functional and clinical applications
For more than seventy years, Clinical Neuroanatomy has been the best way for medical students, residents, trainees in health-related fields, and clinicians in practice to gain an understanding of neuroanatomy, its functional underpinnings, and its relationship to the clinic. Emphasizing the important concepts, facts, and structures, this full-color and engagingly written text includes clear, memorable tables and diagrams, and is state of the art in pathophysiology and diagnosis and treatment of neurological disorders.
Here's why Clinical Neuroanatomy is essential for board review or as a clinical refresher:
More than 300 full-color illustrations
Clinical correlations help you interpret and remember essential neuroanatomic concepts in terms of function and clinical application
Numerous computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance images (MRIs) of the normal brain and spinal cord; functional magnetic resonance images that provide a noninvasive window on brain function; and neuroimaging studies that illustrate common pathological entities that affect the nervous system
Coverage of the latest advances in molecular and cellular biology in the context of neuroanatomy
A unique Introduction to Clinical Thinking section that puts neuroanatomy in a clinical perspective
Clear, easy-to-read tables that encapsulate important information
A complete practice exam to test your knowledge
Coverage of the basic structure and function of the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves as well as clinical presentations of disease processes involving specific structures

Описание: This book is the story of the marriage of a new techl}ology, computers, with an old problem, the study of neuroanatomical structures using the light microscope. Chapters 4, 5, and 6 present the use of computers to reconstruct anatomic structures, i.e., to enter them into a computer memory, where they are later displayed and analyzed.

Описание: As a source of information on neuroanatomical research methods this Volume is not without precedent. In 1957, at the initiative of Dr. W. F. Windle, a conference was held at the National Institutes of Health, the proceedings of which, edited by Dr. Windle and published by C. C. Thomas under the title "New Research Tech- niques of Neuroanatomy", rapidly became something like a standard reference in the field of Neuromorphology. The present editors were emboldened to seek support for a second expose of contemporary research methods in Neuroanatomy by the success of this earlier publication, as well as by the consideration that the years elapsed since its appearance have been, perhaps, more productive of new research methods and strategies in Neuroanatomy than were any dozen consecutive years since the golden decades of the 1870's and 1880's. The decision, which methods to include in this conference, has been a difficult one. For reasons of space alone it would have been impossible to do equal justice to techniques approaching the brain as a neuronal system, the brain as a tissue, or the neuron as a cell. As a brief inspection of the contents of this volume will show, the weight of choice fell upon the first of these alternatives. The reader will find, further- more, that not all of the book is devoted to new methods in the strict sense.
