Описание: Written by a pioneering leader in the development of vitreoretinal surgical techniques and instruments, Vitreous Microsurgery is a comprehensive how-to guide to all vitreoretinal procedures. This thoroughly updated Fifth Edition describes many new techniques and refinements of established procedures. More than 170 three-dimensional full-color illustrations—many by the Charles Retina Institute's resident medical artist, Byron Wood—enable surgeons to clearly visualize the techniques. This edition has new chapters on the Constellation vitrectomy system, uveitis, retinal complications of permanent keratoprosthesis, and anti-VEGF therapy. All illustrations have been updated, the majority to a 25-gauge approach instead of 20-gauge, and many new illustrations have been added. Many techniques and parameters unique to 25-gauge sutureless vitrectomy are discussed in detail. The retinopathy of prematurity chapter was completely rewritten to address new examination procedures, laser guidelines, anti-VEGF therapy, and changing, more conservative indications for surgery. The section on anesthesia for vitreoretinal surgery was completely rewritten in collaboration with Gary Fanning, MD and Jay Mattingly, MD, leading experts on this subject from an anesthesiologist's perspective. The focus of the text is on the decision making process a surgeon goes through in evaluating the best course of treatment for his/her patient undergoing vitreous surgery. The book describes in detail clinically proven methods of managing the anterior and posterior segment vitreous surgery patient in a systematic manner. The text is organized in a building block approach with general methodology preceding its application to specific disease states. The book stresses algorithms for intra-operative decision making, relying on knowledge of physical principles and performed in the order of ascending risk. A companion website included with purchase offers the fully searchable text and an online image bank.

Описание: Vitrectomy techniques and instrumentation have been used successfully to treat a number of conditions in the anterior segment. These include: 1) vitreous in the anterior chamber, 2) inadequate pupillary openings, 3) lens surgery, 4) epithelial downgrowth, 5) hyphemas, and 6) certain glaucomas. These methods offer several advantages to the anterior segment surgeon. The advantages are primarily those of a well-controlled tissue excision system, maintenance of the normal shape of the globe, and ability to control intraocular pressure. Описание: The vitreous body long has been the most mysterious of all ocular structures, owing perhaps to its seeming simplicity. Chapter V: "Functions" and Chapter VI: "Development and Aging" introduce fresh perspectives on the importance of the vitreous as some- thing more than a vestigial space filler within the eye.
Описание: Provides current information from clinical trials on major retin conditions, including age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular disorders, and retinal detachments. It also includes an overview of diagnostic techniques in retinal imaging, electrophysiologic testing, and new genetic approaches to the diagnosis and classification of retinal dystrophies and degenerations.

Описание: It is fascinating to read how his concepts for the treatment of complicated retinal detachments evolved from the intra ocular use of silicone oil to a combination of vitreous surgery with silicone oil tamponade.

Описание: This book is exceptional in explaining not only when and how but also why vitrectomy is performed – an additional focus that will help trainee surgeons to develop their own critical thinking. Uniquely, the book’s first part describes “the life of the vitreoretinal surgeon” to help residents decide whether the field is indeed suitable for them, and if yes, how they can chart their own course in the absence of a formal fellowship program. The second and third parts discuss the fundamentals in VR surgery, such as the general philosophy underlying vitrectomy, equipment, examination, timing, anesthesia, the surgeon’s posture, and the organization of the operating room. The final two parts are dedicated to surgical strategy and tissue tactics, reviewing the principles of surgical maneuvers and the practical sides of diagnosis-specific issues. An appendix is also included, which offers additional guideposts for the aspiring trainee surgeon, including a description of how an ideal mentor should act in surgery. The book is written in an easy-to-follow format with bullet points and text boxes, and has well over 250 color images and line drawings as well as over 60 tables.

Описание: In the last 30 years, the field of vitreoretinal disease has rapidly evolved into a complex medical/surgical specialty that incorporates a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic modalities. Even for specialists, it is difficult to keep up with the constant flow of new clinical information; for the general ophthalmologist it is almost impossible. This book fills the gap by offering an up-to-date, clinically oriented, one-volume source that covers the full spectrum of medical and surgical vitreoretinal diseases. Although comprehensive in scope, the book is designed to highlight important points and pearls of information in a modern essentials format, making it ideal for everyday use by the specialist and generalist alike. This lavishly illustrated text begins with a basic overview of ocular embryology, anatomy, and physiology, and moves on to the latest diagnostic tools, individual disease states, and specific vitreoretinal procedures. Throughout, there are important management tips and guidelines that can easily be applied in everyday practice.
