Описание:

Published originally in 1809-1810, The Friend was revised in 1812, by public demand. In 1818, a three-volume rifacimento appeared in which Coleridge attempted to dispel obscurity, tie up loose threads of reasoning, and provide more mature apercus. Now, in the Collected Works, The Friend has been re-edited to return to Coleridges 1818 text. His emendations, cuts, and marginal comments noted in six copies of the work, as well as manuscript additions and deletions, have been included as footnotes. The editors footnotes also elucidate sources and themes and provide translations of the many Latin and Greek passages. The entire periodical Friend is given as an appendix, with the 1812 revisions.

Описание: This collection of essays takes up the most famous feminist sentence ever written, Simone de Beauvoir`s "On ne nait pas femme: on le devient," finding in it a flashpoint of feminist thinking. Two controversies emerge from this sentence which the volume addresses from multiple scholarly perspectives: one over the practice of translation and one over the nature and status of sexual difference.

Описание: A sailor dooms his ship's crew by murdering an albatross and is lost at sea, alone with the burden of his guilt, until a meeting with divine messengers brings him the opportunity to do penance.

Samuel Taylor Coleridge's (1772-1834) haunting parable of sin and absolution, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, is widely recognized as one of the greatest narrative poems in the English language and was a defining achievement in the establishment of the Romantic Movement.

Coleridge's text is presented here alongside the classic illustrations of Gustave Dor (1832-1883), the great French engraver famous for his illustrations of Dante's Inferno, Milton's Paradise Lost, and the Bible. His imaginative and detailed illustrations are a beautiful and evocative visual compliment to this unique masterpiece of English literature.

Описание: About my neck was hung.Samuel Taylor Coleridge's famous poem "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner" is often regarded as having heralded the beginning of the Romantic era in British literature. The poem narrates the story of a sailor who has returned home from a long voyage having suffered great loss, yet survived. In this Studies in Theology and the Arts volume, poet and theologian Malcolm Guite leads readers on a journey with Coleridge, whose own life paralleled the experience of the mariner. On this theological voyage, Guite draws out the continuing relevance of this work and the ability of poetry to communicate the truths of humanity's fallenness, our need for grace, and the possibility of redemption.
