Описание: Adopted at birth, our hero grew up knowing only the goodness of life. Loving parents, supportive friends, and caring teachers. Intelligent and moral, Ben was destined for a life full of promises. He was accepted by the top university. The path ahead of him was painted in nothing but rose-color. Then it all took a turn; a turn that led to an uncharted labyrinth. Ill-equipped for the treachery of open society, Ben simply took on what came his way and marched forward undauntedly. In no time at all he was deeply into an unfamiliar world from which there was no retreat. Was he merely pulled in by the forces of reality, or did he actually have a fascination for the unsavory elements of Evil? Indeed, did he have an agenda of a personal nature that required his venturing into the less than desirable precincts of living? Regardless, Ben seemed naturally gifted to tackle what came his way, until he must confront the arch rival, the veritable Satan incarnate himself. For Ben it was a struggle of life and death. For us it is the Kingda Ka roller-coaster ride of a yarn; a unique saga of a crime thriller. It juggernauts toward the explosive climax, then a dastard twist pops out; a secret that had been there all along... Excerpts: Garbage Man retrieved a pair of Hammacher Schlemmer 144X Powerful Zoom binoculars. Ben was wide-eyed. He was stunned by Garbage Man possessing such sophisticated spying equipment, which further deepened his wonderment about this otherwise unassuming near-derelict. Maestros house was within view. Sunken into a small wooded area by the sea the house was barely visible. Down from the house was a pathway leading to a small jetty; small but located at a place that could easily be accessed by a sea-going vessel because of the deep seabed there. Remember, this was Zeung-Bo-Jai the pirates haunting ground. After scanning the general locale a bit Garbage Man passed the binoculars on to Ben. Know how to operate it? Garbage Man whispered. Never used it before. No big deal. Just turn here for zoom and this for intensity. Ok. Ben scanned from the left to the right to get his bearing, then back to focus on the house. Between the trees he could see the large front door behind steel gates. Inside the gate was the BMW. This was Maestros residence all right. On the walls he could make out what looked like little black boxes positioned at strategic points. Ben gathered these must be surveillance cameras. At the feet of the wall were unmistakable searchlights. Maestro must have reason for the security installations, Ben surmised. As he was scanning slowly Ben suddenly discerned a small shape out in the ocean. It was not moving. It was a ship anchored. Ben fidgeted with the zoom a bit to get the hang of it and zeroed in. A yacht came into viewed clearly. It was a familiar sight. Ben zoomed in further, this time focusing on the yachts name. Heavenly Queen II. * * * Just as Ben was going by the door a sultry voice came from his left. Hi, my darling. Ben turned to look. Sitting there out of the light was a pleasant looking lady. She looked about in her late twenties; maybe early thirties, and was pretty in a way a mature woman looked. Dressed in a jade-green cheung-sam, a tight-fitting long tunic with slits cut high up to expose good parts of the thighs, she sat cross-legged on a stool half concealed behind the front door. Hows it going there? She said in a friendly tone. Fine. Thank you. How about yourself? Ben replied with equanimity. Im doing all right. Are you guys off now? Yes. Sam and I are going for a cup of coffee. You want to join us? No can do. Gotta work. Wish I could go with you guys, though. Looks like its going to be fun. What are you doing? Just sitting here looking good? Pretty much. Someones gotta keep an eye on things. Sorry that you cant go. Maybe next time? Im sure therell be a next time. Seeing the slight puzzlement on Bens face, the lady added, Maestro..

Описание:

The Age of Discovery was a fabulous yet mysterious time. Beginning from early fifteenth century Europeans took to the sea in droves. The result is the discovery of entire heretofore unknown landmasses, including the Americas, Australia, Greenland, Iceland, and others. Indeed that is why the time is known as the Age of Discovery. From the European point of view Europeans "discovered" these places. Today we hail personalities such as Vasco da Gama, Christopher Columbus, Ferdinand Magellan and the like as heroes. Yet we know pitifully little about the history of the period. There are scant official records. Most of what we take as history is in fact basically legends and mythology. Facts are in short supply. Is the name America really derived from from Amerigo Vespucci, a minor adventurer who did not explore the new continents? Today even textbooks attribute the honor to him, but in fact we have no proof that the name America was indeed derived from the name Amerigo.

Why are American Natives called Indians? Are they from India? Hardly. Then why do we call them Indians? Where did the name California come from? Is that an Indian name? Nobody knows. The fact is, the Age of Discovery is full of such conundrums and questionable assertions. Much of what is accepted as history is in fact false. Yes, Christopher Columbus did not discover America Da Gama, who was credited with opening the sea route from Europe to the East, was a savage and brutal man. Hernan Cortes, who conquered Mexico, was a failed legal scholar that could not make good at home and took to adventures. His cousin Francisco Pizarro, who conquered the Incas and founded Peru, was an illiterate, uneducated, illegitimate son of a minor military man. Our heroes of exploration were across-the-board ruffians. What drove them to risk their lives for greatness?

In the prequel of the present book, The Chinese Origin of the Age of Discovery (now 2nd Edition), the case is made that some five hundred years ago Europeans took to the sea because they had inherited the knowledge of the world from the Chinese. At the beginning of the 15th century the Chinese Ming Dynasty had a civil war. At the end the young emperor was defeated by his uncle and vanished. Most thought he died, but the victorious uncle, who was now the new emperor, thought the ex-emperor had escaped overseas, so he built the greatest fleet the world had never seen before to go after him. Thus the Ming fleet roamed the waters of the world for thirty years, and its exploits were learned by the Europeans, who utilized the Chinese sea charts to go to sea, ushering in the Age of Discovery.

Ironically, today historians are unsure of the true purpose of these grand expeditions, and the history of the period is largely lost. In its place absurd theories disguised as history took hold. Now it is claimed that the Ming fleets were enacted to spread the glory of the Ming civilization, to promote international commerce, and proselytize the messages of peace, and the greatest nation on Earth at the time had t do it for 30 years

In the mean time, the biggest mystery of them all: the disappearance of ex-Emperor Jianwen, was left unsolved. Yet, there exist a host of evidence-seemingly unrelated historical tidbits, often unexplainable and ignored-that can shed light on the events of the time. For one, the Ming fleets consistently sailed west. Does that not tell us something? Surprisingly, these historical remnants are not found in the Chinese archives, but in European documents and consciousness.

As the extension of The Chinese Origin of the Age of Discovery, 2nd Edition (ISBN 978-1548435554), The Hunt for the Dragon delves into the mysterious events of the world of six hundred years ago, and offers a shocking take on the extraordinary incidents that now mostly have been forgotten. Have we been propagandizing a wrong history all this time? You get to be the judge.

Описание: The Dragon Bagua Zhang system of third-generation master Fu Zhen Song was one of the most powerful martial arts styles to emerge from 1920s China. Fu Zhen Song had a reputation as a skilled fighter and uncompromising teacher, and his Dragon Bagua style was renowned for its extensive catalog of whirling body movements and fighting techniques. In 1991 Lin Chao Zhen, Fu's formal disciple, brought this mysterious martial art to the United States, where he practiced and taught until his death in 1997.
"Fu Zhen Song's Dragon Bagua Zhang "presents this challenging system in a step-by-step format, including palm forms, stepping patterns, and training methods. Originally written in Chinese by Lin Chao Zhen and translated by his son, Wei Ran Lin, this edition also features an extensive introductory section on the development of the Dragon Bagua form and the history of its lineage. The text is accompanied by 150 photographs of the late master Lin Chao Zhen demonstrating the form, as well as an illustrated two-person practice set that teaches the system's applications for self-defense and sparring.

Описание: 2000 Years of World History is a new presentation of the history of the world. The history of the world's civilizations is told in one continuous run with minimum emphasis on the separation of nations.National histories serve the needs of individual nationals. American history deals with those events considered significant to America, and likewise French history focuses on those that have meanings to the French. However, studying the histories of the Americans, the French, and others does not equate with studying the history of the world. No nation is an island. Past events of a country, its history, were intrinsically interwoven with those of other countries, be it through cultural exchange (the spreading of the knowledge of paper-making, use of gun powder, etc.), diplomatic intercourse (evangelizing of religions, the opening of Japanese ports by Matthew C. Perry, etc.), or conflict (no example needs to be given).National histories, because of their preoccupation with national interests, often place secondary emphasis on events beyond that scope, and that can lead to bias; bias in the sense that our understanding of such events can take on a skewed perspective. This prejudice can further be slanted due to nationalism. That is the root of the Walter Benjamin quote: "History is written by the victors." The writers of national histories tend to shine their nations in good light. That leads to the coloring of good and evil, and right or wrong. The fact is, historical events should not be understood in such moralistic terms. They should be presented as facts-not even interpretations of facts, but facts based on evidence. We should let the history users draw their own conclusions on these events of the past and make their own moral determination, rather than imposing on them our notion of moral values. An example would be the ongoing conflict in Syria. The United States is backing the rebels against the Syrian government, and the president of Syria, Bashar Hafez al-Assad, is branded a monster. He kills his own people. He should be brought to trial as a war crime offender. These are all judgment-loaded assertions. If one were to read pro-Syria reporting, one would get a completely opposite sense. The Syrian government is battling rebels, who are Syrians. Therefore, the Syrian government is of course killing its own people. By siding with the rebels, who are thus anointed as being on the right, the Syrian government is naturally cast as the villain. However, the Syrian government was in place before the challenge of the rebels. Does it not have the right to defend itself, or do we expect the Syrian government to lay down its arms and proclaim, "Ah, we have learned from the Americans that we are the bad guys, so we now surrender and make room for the good guys"?History with a world view allows us to take a bird's-eye view of international events. If we were to do that with the Syrian analogy we would be instead focusing on the involvements of not just Syria and USA, but Iraq, Turkey, the Kurds, Russia, and Iran and Israel, each having its interests at stake. We will quickly shed our attachment to the notions of good vs. evil and who is right and who is wrong.Extant history, often that which is taught in classrooms, is fraught with such moralistic proselytizing, and it distracts from our attempt to understand what happened in the past and learn from it. These involve issues of ethnicity, culture, and even definitions of nations. An example would be the long history of Egypt. The Egypt of today is not the Egypt of 2,000 years ago. The old Egypt is dead. Its language is no longer spoken. Its customs are no longer practiced. Today's Egypt is an Arabic nation. It therefore arouses a feeling of incongruity when the Egyptian cultural minister uses the phrase "our heritage."2000 Years of World History attempts to present history in a renewed light.
