Il testo tratto da una pi ampia raccolta di racconti dello Schmid, libro che stato recuperato insieme ad altri tra ci che resta della biblioteca delle sorelle Caterina e Maria Zanoni, che trascorsero gli ultimi trent'anni della loro vita a Brembio. L'intento quello di testimoniare come l'orizzonte culturale nelle campagne della Bassa, nell'Ottocento e nella prima met del Novecento fosse molto pi ampio e pieno di interessi e sfaccettature, di quanto comunemente si sia portati a credere, sviati da una sorta di vulgata che tende a sminuire la portata di quella civilt agricola, protrattasi fino alla prima parte del secolo scorso, che ha fatto ricco il territorio lodigiano.
