Rooted in the work of community - school collaborations, this text focuses on connecting the rigors of the classroom with the ambiguity of lived community experience. Community-Based Transformational Learning (CBTL) draws on the increasing evidence that course-learning conducted in an applied, community setting, can positively transform students' professional and personal identity and creates new ways of thinking and working in university courses and pre-professional experiences.
To illustrate the different ways to successfully implement community-based learning, examples are provided of experiences integrated in courses across multiple disciplines across an American university whose mission is focused on teaching. Topics covered include refugee and immigration transition issues, incarceration and health needs with international examples of community experiences from Jamaica, Korea and Belize. Qualitative and quantitative data depict how these experiences impact students and each chapter presents how community engagement has been established as an effective approach in the different disciplines, including computer science and sports management. The authors demonstrate how CBTL experiences can be transformative when students are provided a chance to connect the academic commitment to community aims, but also provides suggestions for overcoming challenges and pit-falls in developing these experiences.

Описание: Learn how to foster meaningful, lasting connections within your community, whether face-to-face or online, by creating a small-group culture through a proven five-step strategy. Now, more than ever, people need community. Though digital "connections" are skyrocketing in today's culture, deep relationships are in steep decline. People are eating out (and on the run) more--and going into an office less. As evidence of the stress on our social fabric, rates of loneliness and isolation, along with mental health issues, continue to climb. Our need for community is clear, and people are turning to churches to find a place to connect, belong, and grow. You know that a healthy small-group environment doesn't just happen. It requires a clear vision, a thoughtful plan, and an experienced guide. It takes intentional effort to make it a reality. This book lays out the plan you need, whether your group is meeting in person or digitally, to intentionally build meaningful, lasting connections and spiritual growth in your church community.

Описание: This book tells the story of Lyn`s House, inspired by Jean Vanier, founder of the L`Arche communities. It is a small Christian house of hospitality and friendship in Cambridge, set in an open community of volunteers and supporters. This is a moving account of its origins and development, and of the friendships it enables.
Thousands of books about business and leadership are published every single year, but we seldom have time to digest that knowledge, let alone put it all into action.
Organisational change is rarely simple, but The Transformational Leadership Compass makes the process as clear, accessible, and practical as possible.
Through simple, jargon-free language, the TLC system helps you bring your peoples' heads and hearts together on the journey towards a new and better normal.

It has succeeded in IT consultancies, yogurt factories, flying trapeze schools (seriously), telecommunications providers, schools, accounting firms, renewable energy companies, recruitment firms, real estate agencies, and more.
Now, Benny and the good people at BIG Change share the TLC dynamic coaching system to help companies of all shapes and sizes reach their full potential.

Описание: This practical guide shows how to facilitate collaboration among diverse individuals and organizations to navigate complexity and create change in our interconnected world. The social and environmental challenges we face today are not only complex, they are also systemic and structural and have no obvious solutions. They require diverse combinations of people, organizations, and sectors to coordinate actions and work together even when the way forward is unclear. Even so, collaborative efforts often fail because they attempt to navigate complexity with traditional strategic plans, created by hierarchies that ignore the way people naturally connect.
By embracing a living-systems approach to organizing, impact networks bring people together to build relationships across boundaries; leverage the existing work, skills, and motivations of the group; and make progress amid unpredictable and ever-changing conditions. As a powerful and flexible organizing system that can span regions, organizations, and silos of all kinds, impact networks underlie some of the most impressive and large-scale efforts to create change across the globe.
David Ehrlichman draws on his experience as a network builder; interviews with dozens of network leaders; and insights from the fields of network science, community building, and systems thinking to provide a clear process for creating and developing impact networks. Given the increasing complexity of our society and the issues we face, our ability to form, grow, and work through networks has never been more essential.
Stroll through any public park in Brooklyn on a weekday afternoon and you will see black women with white children at every turn. Many of these women are of Caribbean descent, and they have long been a crucial component of New York’s economy, providing childcare for white middle- and upper-middleclass families. Raising Brooklyn offers an in-depth look at the daily lives of these childcare providers, examining the important roles they play in the families whose children they help to raise. Tamara Mose Brown spent three years immersed in these Brooklyn communities: in public parks, public libraries, and living as a fellow resident among their employers, and her intimate tour of the public spaces of gentrified Brooklyn deepens our understanding of how these women use their collective lives to combat the isolation felt during the workday as a domestic worker. Though at first glance these childcare providers appear isolated and exploited—and this is the case for many—Mose Brown shows that their daily interactions in the social spaces they create allow their collective lives and cultural identities to flourish. Raising Brooklyn demonstrates how these daily interactions form a continuous expression of cultural preservation as a weapon against difficult working conditions, examining how this process unfolds through the use of cell phones, food sharing, and informal economic systems. Ultimately, Raising Brooklyn places the organization of domestic workers within the framework of a social justice movement, creating a dialogue between workers who don’t believe their exploitative work conditions will change and an organization whose members believe change can come about through public displays of solidarity.

GAO found that: (1) EC will allow an insurance company based in any member state to provide services throughout EC using a single license from the member state; (2) the home state has sole responsibility for the financial supervision of the insurance company's operations throughout EC; (3) EC has adopted legislative directives with minimum regulatory standards that member states must incorporate into their national regulatory systems; (4) EC has proposed a directive to ensure the equal treatment of creditors and policyholders when an insurance company is liquidated; (5) EC member states have regulatory differences that involve taxation, contract laws, valuation methods for assets and liabilities, supervisory reporting of financial and nonfinancial information, and antifraud measures; and (6) there are uncertainties about how some elements of EC insurance regulation will work when fully implemented.
