As a Psychotherapist raised and still living in the diverse mega-city that is NYC, I have helped hundreds of folks from all races, ethnicities, and cultures cope with their distressing feelings and thoughts about their mothers. However, what makes me especially inclined to write about the nuanced difficulties of Latina mothers is my experience in facilitating groups with Latinx individuals (gender-neutral term for Latinas and Latinos) struggling with their mothers. Being involved in these groups has brought clarity to the similar and overarching complaints that many Latinx folks experience.
My intentions are to help you explore the psychological consequences of having a mother with difficult behaviors. I also want to help you set boundaries and act towards your self-validation and self-protection. I want to help you remother (or reparent) yourself--to help you build your self-reliance, self-worth, and self-compassion. By building a better relationship with yourself, I also want to assist you in creating better relationships with others: whether it's in your romantic partnerships, friendships, or as a parent Regarding the title of this project: I do not want to promote a false narrative that Latina moms are inherently "difficult" or all the same. Hence, I describe some of their behaviors and personality traits as "difficult," not who they are.I dedicate this guide to my Latinx community

Описание:
Sylvia Plath once said, "I want someone to mouth me." La Belle Ajar is a collection of poems inspired by Plath's 1963 novel that reimagines the journey of Esther Greenwood within the empowering odyssey of these 20 scintillating cento poems that honor the voice and legacy of America's most influential modern poet and author: Sylvia Plath.
La Belle Ajar was selected in Luna Luna Magazine's 'Top 5 Books to watch out for in 2020'
"La Belle Ajar is a beautiful collaboration between the dead and the living, the muse and the inspired, and a reminder to continue the conversations with the poets who came before us; Cepeda finds the magic of Plath and delicately constructs her enchantment, an enlivening book of poems you will return to reread again and again."
--Kelli Russell Agodon, Editor at Two Sylvias Press and author of Dialogues with Rising Tides (Copper Canyon Press)
"Adrian Ernesto Cepeda's new book La Belle Ajar opens up Sylvia Plath's words and gives them new life, Lovers of Plath and those looking for a book to captivate in the thick honey of self-discovery don't want to miss this release from CLASH Books."
--Tianna G. Hansen, Editor-in-Chief of Rhythm & Bones Press
"Plath's eternal essence -- her poetry of confessions, rife with details and darknesses -- is woven throughout this La Belle Ajar. The drama, the particulars, and an unlimited glimmering of language oozes in each and every poem. The ghost of Plath seems to be conjured, to find reanimation, in Cepeda's many inspirations. And while Plath is the muse here, of course, the work stands entirely on its own -- unexpected, surreal, and alight. A true tribute, emerging into its own new shape."
--Lisa Marie Basile, poet, editor of Luna Luna, and author of The Magical Writing Grimoire
"Adrian Ernesto Cepeda's sensual, electric internal rhythms provoke external, communal ones too. And La Belle Ajar is not just an exercise in homage but a choreographed remix, a translation, a correspondence between words and worlds. Cepeda leaves the door open, in pursuit of readerly access and inspiration. This work vibrates."
--Chris Campanioni, Editor PANK Magazine and author of The Internet is for Real
"Adrian Ernesto Cepeda's LA BELLE AJAR is delightful, thought-provoking, and compelling. The lines are both conversational and fierce, lulling us into submission, and then chilling us to the bone at the same time: "she burst /out, I never said, I'm not/godlike." Cepeda takes Plath, and digs in deep to her life, her struggles, her being, while inhabiting the world as it is now, while conveying the very strangeness of being at all: "I looked empty and subdued, /among the Gillett blades/paper scraps it occurred to/me, I must be idly dead." This book is meant to be read and loved, with all its complexities, much like a human.""

Описание: Media stories about National Security Agency (NSA) surveillance pertain to the unauthorised disclosures of two different intelligence collection programs. These programs arise from provisions of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA). However, they rely on separate authorities, collect different types of information, and raise different policy questions. This book provides background and issues for Congress with NSA surveillance leaks; provides a primer on some of the fundamental aspects of the security clearance process, using a "frequently asked questions" format; discusses criminal prohibitions on the publication of classified defence information; the legal framework of the protection of classified information; and practices and proposals of the protection of classified information by Congress.

Описание: In 2009, when Raquel Cepeda almost lost her estranged father to heart disease, she was terrified she d never know the truth about her ancestry. Every time she looked in the mirror, Cepeda saw a mystery a tapestry of races and ethnicities that came together in an ambiguous mix. With time running out, she decided to embark on an archaeological dig of sorts by using the science of ancestral DNA testing to excavate everything she could about her genetic history. Digging through memories long buried, she embarks upon a journey not only into her ancestry but also into her own history. Born in Harlem to Dominican parents, she was sent to live with her maternal grandparents in the Paraiso (Paradise) district in Santo Domingo while still a baby. It proved to be an idyllic reprieve in her otherwise fraught childhood. Paraiso came to mean family, home, belonging. When Cepeda returned to the US, she discovered her family constellation had changed. Her mother had a new, abusive boyfriend, who relocated the family to San Francisco. When that relationship fell apart, Cepeda found herself back in New York City with her father and European stepmother: attending tennis lessons and Catholic schools; fighting vicious battles wih her father, who discouraged her from expressing the Dominican part of her hyphenated identity; and immersed in the 80s hip-hop culture of uptown Manhattan. It was in these streets, through the prism of hip-hop and the sometimes loving embrace of her community, that Cepeda constructed her own identity. Years later, when Cepeda had become a successful journalist and documentary filmmaker, the strands of her DNA would take her further, across the globe and into history. Who were her ancestors? How did they and she become Latina? Her journey, as the most unforgettable ones often do, would lead her to places she hadn t expected to go. With a vibrant lyrical prose and fierce honesty, Cepeda parses concepts of race, identity, and ancestral DNA among Latinos by using her own Dominican-American story as one example, and in the process arrives at some sort of peace with her father."
Long associated with the pejorative clich?s of the drug-trafficking trade and political violence, contemporary Colombia has been unfairly stigmatized. In this pioneering study of the Miami music industry and Miami’s growing Colombian community, Mar?a Elena Cepeda boldly asserts that popular music provides an alternative common space for imagining and enacting Colombian identity. Using an interdisciplinary analysis of popular media, music, and music video, Cepeda teases out issues of gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, and transnational identity in the Latino/a music industry and among its most renowned rock en espa?ol, pop, and vallenato stars. Musical ImagiNation provides an overview of the ongoing Colombian political and economic crisis and the dynamics of Colombian immigration to metropolitan Miami. More notably, placed in this context, the book discusses the creative work and media personas of talented Colombian artists Shakira, Andrea Echeverri of Aterciopelados, and Carlos Vives. In her examination of the transnational figures and music that illuminate the recent shifts in the meanings attached to Colombian identity both in the United States and Latin America, Cepeda argues that music is a powerful arbitrator of memory and transnational identity.
