Описание: In February of 1945, during the final months of the Third Reich, Eva Noack-Mosse was deported to the Nazi concentration camp of Theresienstadt. A trained journalist and expert typist, she was put to work in the Central Evidence office of the camp, compiling endless lists—inmates arriving, inmates deported, possessions confiscated from inmates, and all the obsessive details required by the SS. With access to camp records, she also recorded statistics and her own observations in a secret diary.Noack-Mosse's aim in documenting the horrors of daily life within Theresienstadt was to ensure that such a catastrophe could never be repeated. She also gathered from surviving inmates information about earlier events within the walled fortress, witnessed the defeat and departure of the Nazis, saw the arrival of the International Red Cross and the Soviet Army takeover of the camp and town, assisted in administration of the camp's closure, and aided displaced persons in discovering the fates of their family and friends. After the war ended, and she returned home, Noack-Mosse cross-referenced her data with that of others to provide evidence of Nazi crimes. At least 35,000 people died at Theresienstadt and another 90,000 were sent on to death camps.

Avantgarde und Moderne haben sich in den letzten Jahrzehnten zu unterschiedlichen, aber mehrfach miteinander verzahnten Forschungsgebieten entwickelt. Innerhalb der franzosischen und deutschen akademischen Welt bleibt der Sammelbegriff „modernism" weniger gelaufig – „die (klassische) Moderne" und „modernite" fungieren hier als nahe liegende Aquivalente zu demjenigen, was im internationalen Kontext als eine zeitliche und raumliche Ko-Okkurenz kunstlerischer Ausdrucksformen und asthetischer Theorien namhaft gemacht werden kann, die ungefahr zwischen 1850 und 1950 angesiedelt werden kann. Auf ahnliche Weise entfaltet die Bezeichnung „Avantgarde" eine Reihe haufig widerspruchlicher Konnotationen. Fur manche bedeutet die Avantgarde den radikalsten experimentellen Bruch der Kunste und Literaturen mit den Darstellungs- und Erzahlkonventionen des 19. Jahrhundert: Im fruhen zwanzigsten Jahrhundert zeugen davon Avantgardebewegungen wie Futurismus, Expressionismus, Dada und Surrealismus, d.h. Stromungen, die als die „heroische" Phase der Avantgarde bezeichnet werden konnen. Fur andere gehort die Avantgarde zu einer kulturellen und konzeptuellen Ordnung, die sich weitgehend von der 'modernistischen' unterscheidet oder sogar abhebt: Die avantgardistischen Experimente ab den funfziger Jahren des zwanzigsten Jahrhunderts kommen in dieser Hinsicht weitgehend ohne modernistische Begleiterscheinung aus. Die Buchreihe Studien zur Europaischen Avantgarde und Moderne mochte der Kompliziertheit der unterschiedlichen europaischen Forschungstraditionen gerecht werden und strebt danach, die breite linguistische, terminologische und methodologische Vielfalt abzudecken. Anhand einer zweijahrlichen Sammlung von Beitragen in englischer, franzosischer und deutscher Sprache mochte die Reihe nicht nur die franzosisch-, deutsch- und englischsprachigen, sondern auch die nord-, sud-, zentral- und osteuropaischen Ergebnisse der Avantgarde- und Moderne-Forschung einbeziehen. In Germany, the relationship between Turkish immigrants and Germans without migration background is often characterized by negative views. Intergroup Contact Theory describes how social contact can improve relations between groups in conflict. This book examines a series of five tandem language classes that have never before been studied in an intergroup contact context. Applying the theory’s principles, native Germans and Turkish immigrants taught each other German and Turkish supervised by a bilingual language teacher. Statistical analyses reveal a prejudice-reducing effect for course participants relative to a non-participating control group. This and other findings promote tandem language classes as a means to improve relations between host population and immigrants from the start.
