What better time to write about World War 1 than during the centennial years of the United States involvement. This diary gave me the opportunity to present The Great War as Corporal Linton Henry Hoover saw it as he served as a signalman in the 33rd Infantry Division, United States Army. He left a detailed daily account of the war that led him to France, the trenches and the front lines where disease and death were a daily occurrence. As you read this account, his account, remember that he was part of a generation of young men and women who are often called the Lost Generation because so many were killed or maimed. A generation lost on the killing fields of a mostly forgotten war. As the 100th anniversary of the ending of World War 1 approaches, it is a great time to remember.
