Описание:
"Deep Waters: Lift Your Gaze" is about hope and healing. It is a beacon of light to those who are going through difficult times. This Christian non-fiction book is unique as it combines solid biblical teaching, sweet prophetic poems, and powerful intercessory prayers. It also provides a rare opportunity for personal reflection through each chapter's application questions and accompanying prayer journal.
The first section unpacks the nature of trials since we all experience them, each one is unique, and no one is exempt from them. This portion dives into the common questions of "why me?" and "why are trials so hard?" It unveils the hard truths that sometimes God doesn't remove the season of suffering from his children. Instead, he gives us enough grace to joyfully rise above our tribulations and praise him in advance of our physical deliverance.
The reasons we experience trials are covered in the next section. Sometimes we endure a season of difficulty because we have made mistakes, been a victim of betrayal, or experienced a loss, illness, or even death. This book provides solace in knowing that God is with us during our darkest storms and will never leave us or forsake us, despite our circumstances.
The third section gives us a specific framework on how to biblically respond to affliction. It reminds us to look to our God, who goes ahead of us in our battles, fights for us and tells us which armor to don. This segment also provides practical strategies to lift our gaze to our God, and not focus on our enemy or agony.
Lastly, regardless of the reasons, situation, or our pain, "Deep Waters: Lift Your Gaze" helps us lift our gaze to our greatest need--access to a holy God through the cross of Jesus Christ. Everything else, including our agony, pales in comparison. This book is a neon sign pointing to God as our source for hope during trials. As we permit his peace to reign in our hearts, we can lift our gaze to our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ and experience his joy in amid our trials.

Описание: The first reference resource on how Asian Americans are currently reading and interpreting the Bible, this volume also serves a valuable role in both developing and disseminating what can be termed as Asian American biblical hermeneutics. The volume works from the important background that Asian Americans are the fastest growing ethnic/racial minority population in the USA, and that 42% of this group identifies as Christian. This provides a useful starting point from which to examine what may be distinctive about Asian American approaches to the Bible. Part 1 of the Handbook describes six major ethic groups that make up 85% of Asian population (by country of origin: China, Philippines, Indian Subcontinent, Vietnam, Korea, Japan) and outlines the specific concerns each group has when its members read the Bible. Part 2 of the Handbook examines major critical methods in biblical interpretation and suggests adjustments that may be helpful for Asian Americans to make when they are interpreting the Bible. Finally, Part 3 provides 25 interpretations by Asian American biblical scholars on specific texts in the Bible, using what they consider to be Asian American hermeneutics. Taken together the Handbook interprets the Bible both with and for the Asian American communities.
The Republic of Korea achieved a double revolution in the second half of the twentieth century. In just over three decades, South Korea transformed itself from an underdeveloped, agrarian country into an affluent, industrialized one. At the same time, democracy replaced a long series of military authoritarian regimes. These historic changes began under President Park Chung Hee, who seized power through a military coup in 1961 and ruled South Korea until his assassination on October 26, 1979. While the state's dominant role in South Korea's rapid industrialization is widely accepted, the degree to which Park was personally responsible for changing the national character remains hotly debated. This book examines the rationale and ideals behind Park's philosophy of national development in order to evaluate the degree to which the national character and moral values were reconstructed.
