Описание: 'Into Oblivion' presents a comprehensive scientific evaluation of each and every theory regarding the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight #MH370. While this book doesn't speculate about how and why the flight was lost, it scientifically interprets whatever little evidence is available at this time. An explanation of the scientific basis of the search techniques and methodology has also been provided in this book. 'Into Oblivion' therefore seeks not to sensationalize or speculate but only to inform and educate by sifting fact from fiction. 'Into Oblivion' is a must-read for all those intrigued by the sudden and as yet unexplained disappearance of #MH370.This book does not tell you what happened to MH370. If you seek a book that explains what happened to the flight, then this is not the book for you. At the time of writing there is insufficient evidence to arrive at any conclusion regarding what actually happened to MH370.This book merely states the facts, without any speculation, and explains how they should be interpreted based on the available scientific and historical data. The reason for writing this book is to state the facts, explain them and differentiate between what the facts represent scientifically and what amounts to conjecture. Then, based on the facts available draw some scientific conclusions on the basis of which the many theories that abound in the media today can be evaluated and either considered plausible, subject to further evidence or rejected altogether.Various technical terms that are being frequently used in relation to this incident, have also been explained. An explanation has also been given of the technology that is being used in the search along with some basic scientific data to help the reader understand the complexities involved in this operation. The reason and focus of this book lies in truth; and where there is no truth known at this time, in scientific and data driven analysis of all possibilities. No speculation, no allegations and certainly, no favorite theory. Every theory out there is just as good as the other in the absence of any proof Lastly, if you're looking to read an emotional account of this tragedy, then this book is not for you. I have no interviews with any of victims' family members, because I believe that people need to be allowed to grieve in private. This book focuses on pure science and facts and on weighing (not counting) the evidence, exactly the way an Accident Investigator is expected to.

Описание: "Only sixty candidates were to be selected from more than fifty thousand boys who had written the Qualifying examination. One hundred and twenty candidates who got the highest marks in the examination would be called for interview in Bombay out of which sixty unfortunate boys would have to return home. Two seats were booked for boys from Ceylon - Sri Lanka. Our state of Travancore - Cochin of those days, later named Kerala, had a quota of six cadets". In 1957, author Augustine Varghese was one of those boys chosen for a career in the Indian Merchant Marine. His life from the time of getting selected on the merchant training ship Dufferin covers his life through the ranks from apprenticeship as officer cadet, to getting certificates of competency, passing the final master (Foreign going) Certificate, working on merchant ships as junior officer, senior officer, and finally as master (captain). The ship Dufferin was named in honour of Lord Dufferin, who had been a highly respected viceroy of the British Government to India. After being chosen from those fifty thousand applicants so many years ago, the author says, "It was almost miraculous that I stepped on that ship." Here then is his exciting story of his life spent at sea.
Описание: This is the colour edition of 'Roll On in which Patricia Roberts faithfully presents her father's genuine, unique diary written as a Prisoner of War of the Japanese. After a forlorn childhood, Tommy Roberts joined the Liverpool King's Regiment and served in India, where for seven years this new life of friendship, discipline and education suited him well. On his return to England and civilian life, he quickly fell in love and he and Edith were married in June 1939. However, war was of course imminent. Tommy was quickly recalled to the Reserve and by August 1939 he had volunteered as a regular soldier. There followed a year as Instructor in Drill and Weapons Training in Burscough where, in September 1940, he and Ede welcomed their baby son. Yet the War was raging and in December Tommy felt called to active service once again. After a year in Coastal and Home Defence his 13th Battalion King 's Regiment was sent to India. Three months later Orde Wingate asked for volunteers for his 77th India Brigade which was to fight the Japanese behind enemy lines in Burma. Tommy volunteered. A gruelling training followed to prepare the volunteers for war against jungle, disease and a ruthless enemy. In early 1943 the Brigade, now known as the Chindits, entered Burma. An even more gruelling, perhaps unimaginable, time began. Tommy was Commander of the Support Group in Column 5, led by Major Bernard Fergusson. By April 1943, Column 5 was 250 miles behind Japanese lines. Meanwhile however, supply lines for food, ammunition and communication had evaporated. Column 5 became spread out and decimated. In April 1943 Tommy's group was ambushed at Kaukkwe and the few survivors taken prisoner. Arriving eventually at Changi Prison, Tommy would spend the next 3 years just managing to survive. Yet somehow, secretly, he was writing a diary. Written in tiny writing in pencil, hidden away as even risking execution if found, both he and the diary somehow did survive. In 1986 Tommy made a recording of his diary and Tommy's daughter Patricia, with the help of the recording, has managed to transcribe the tiny writing in the original Malay exercise books. She presents here this unique, genuine and historic record for all to read....
