Описание:

Since his Reformed Dogmatics was translated into English in the last decade, 19th-century Dutch theologian Herman Bavinck has gained wide popularity among pastors and theologians in the 21st century. Christian Worldview, another of his foundational works, is here translated into English for the first time, introducing more of Bavincks ideas to a contemporary audience. This book was originally written in response to the challenges of modernity, such as the loss of unity of the self, increasing political tension, the rise of scientism, the reduction of humanity to the merely physical, and more--challenges that continue to reverberate in our day and age.

Описание: "Radical, comprehensive vision of the kingdom of God in light of the new creation"
Twentieth-century Dutch missiologist and prolific author J. H. Bavinck was committed to confronting the world with the saving message of Christ. In this first English translation of the Dutch work published in 1946, Bavinck presents a cosmic kingdom vision and champions the coming of the kingdom of Christ as the basic message of the gospel.
Bavinck eloquently challenges believers to live as kingdom people as he expresses a uniquely Reformed perspective on the eternal significance of our temporal world. His eschatological vision, which permeates the book, is now more relevant than ever as climate change, resource depletion, financial turmoil, and other issues increasingly threaten our world.
With Bert Hielema's skillful translation capturing the beauty and power of Bavinck's original text, "Between the Beginning and the End" calls all Christians to consider anew the entire scope of the church and Christ's kingdom.

Описание: Fresh translation of a classic treatise on Christian belief

In the spirit of C. S. Lewis's Mere Christianity, this book by eminent Calvinist thinker J. H. Bavinck offers a compact and compelling treatise on Christian belief.

Addressing big questions that haunt every thinking human being -- Why are we here? Where do we come from? What is our destiny? How should we live? -- Bavinck's Riddle of Life also explores such essential topics as sin and salvation, Jesus the Redeemer, faith and idolatry, God's great plan for creation, and the ultimate purpose behind our lives.

This lucid new translation by Bert Hielema of a classic text will make Bavinck's profound reflections on faith and the meaning of human life accessible to a new generation of seekers.

Описание: This book explores the organic motif found throughout the writings of the Dutch Calvinist theologian Herman Bavinck (1854-1921). Noting that Bavinck uses this motif at key points in the most important loci of theology; Christology, general and special revelation, ecclesiology and so forth; it seems that one cannot read him carefully without particular attention to his motif of choice: the organic. By examining the sense in which Bavinck views all of reality as a beautiful balance of unity-in-diversity, James Eglinton draws the reader to Bavinck's constant concern for the doctrine of God as Trinity. If God is the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, Bavinck argues, the creation must be more akin to an organism than a machine. Trinity and organism are thus closely linked concepts. Eglinton critiques and rejects the 'two Bavincks' (one orthodox and the other modern) hermeneutic so commonplace in discussions of Bavinck's theology. Instead, this book argues for a reunited Herman Bavinck as a figure committed to the participation of historic orthodox theology in the modern world.
