New York Times Book Review Editors' Choice A Very Oral History With a New Introduction by the Author
We Killed shines in its details and its anecdotes....Well crafted and entertaining.--The Boston Globe
From live comedy to television and bestseller lists, women rule the comedy industry--and, as this fascinating oral history shows, they have fought long and hard to make their way to the top. In We Killed, Yael Kohen assembles America's most prominent comediennes--along with the writers, producers, and nightclub owners in their orbit--to piece together the rise of women in American comedy. Beginning with the emergence of Phyllis Diller and Joan Rivers in the fifties, and moving forward to the edgy intelligence of Elaine May and Lily Tomlin on to the tough-ass stand-ups who would take SNL by storm, Kohen chronicles the false starts, backslides, and triumphs of female comedians. With a chorus of more than one hundred creative voices, We Killed takes us backstage to tell the story of the revolution that brought us Tina Fey, Sarah Silverman, and Chelsea Handler--and a world where women can be smart, attractive, sexually confident, and flat-out funny.
Classes and books on the Holocaust often center on the experiences of victims, perpetrators, and bystanders, but rescuers also occupy a prominent space in Holocaust courses and literature even though incidents of rescue were relatively few and rescuers constituted less than 1 percent of the population in Nazi-occupied Europe. As inspiring figures and role models, rescuers challenge us to consider how we would act if we found ourselves in similarly perilous situations of grave moral import. Their stories speak to us and move us.
Yet this was not always the case. Seventy years ago these brave men and women, today regarded as the Righteous Among the Nations, went largely unrecognized; indeed, sometimes they were even singled out for abuse from their co-nationals for their selfless actions. Unlikely Heroes traces the evolution of the humanitarian hero, looking at the ways in which historians, politicians, and filmmakers have treated individual rescuers like Raoul Wallenberg and Oskar Schindler, as well as the rescue efforts of humanitarian organizations. Contributors in this edited collection also explore classroom possibilities for dealing with the role of rescuers, at both the university and the secondary level.

A guide for therapeutic, diagnostic, or prognostic interpretation of images, and for further research, the atlas helps you identify critical points of attack and suggests possible strategies for investigation. Each section provides a brief introduction and the technical details of the staining methods used. The text identifies the organelles and gives explanations of unusual appearances and the cytochemical reactions when necessary. Additional text is provided where appropriate for extension and implementation of methods being utilized to generate similar results. Описание: In 2008, Graham Pascoe and Peter Pepper, two British authors who are not academics, published both in English and in Spanish a pamphlet entitled "Getting it Right: the Real History of the Falklands/Malvinas." Since then, a variety of versions of this pamphlet have been published, some abridged, and some not; the most recent version, officially distributed by the British government in the United Nations Decolonization Committee in June 2015, was pompously entitled: "False Falklands History at the United Nations. How Argentina misled the UN in 1964 - and still does." This simply constitutes an attempt to rewrite history. British pamphlet tries in vain to distort the the solid historical-legal arguments which prove Argentine sovereignty and to convince the reader that the islands are inhabited by a multinational population entitled to the right of self-determination. The work of Marcelo Kohen and Facundo Rodr guez refutes each of the new British arguments, both from the historical and legal point of view. It gives the reader first-hand information, much of it hitherto not exploited in the abundant bibliography. It is an indispensable source for understanding the positions of the parties to the dispute whose solution is still pending.
