Описание: Presents a survey of Russian research on element cycling in the ocean, with data on the Aral Sea. This book reviews the organic matter cycling in the world`s oceans and the working of marginal filters. It offers a survey of sediment ecology and key aspects, such as spatial scaling, the effect of nutrients and trawling in benthic systems.
Описание: Focuses on themes such as: catchment monitoring and manipulations, catchment and regional-scale modeling, nitrogen transformations and processes, and stable and radiogenic isotopes in the environment. This book also focuses on mercury and metal dynamics, phosphorus, terrestrial DOC and soil organic matter, and scaling of biogeochemical processes.
Описание: Contains reviewed papers from BIOGEOMON, the third International Symposium on Ecosystem Behavior, held at Villanova University in June 1997. This title is intended for researchers in biogeochemistry, ecosystem ecology, global change, and anthropogenic pollution, as well as to natural resource managers and policy specialists.
Описание: This book offers insights from a new perspective on selenium in traditional risk assessment of environmental mercury pollution at contaminated sites (and elsewhere) and related health exposure and risks.
Описание: Here is a collection of papers from BIOGEOMON, The Fourth International Symposium on Ecosystem Behavior. The contributions address a wider-than-ever range of concerns: aspects of catchment monitoring and modeling; biogeochemistry of restored ecosystems; and the dynamics of such chemicals as mercury and phosphorous, among many other topics.
Описание: This book presents a new approach to the study of global environmental changes that have unfavorable implications for people and other living systems. The book aims to develop a universal information technology to estimate the state of environmental subsystems functioning under various climatic and anthropogenic conditions.

Описание: A comprehensive, state-of-the-art synthesis of biogeochemical dynamics at major river-coastal interfaces for advanced students and researchers. It presents a unique perspective on how humans have altered these systems, as well as the implications of these changes on issues as diverse as the health of fisheries and the global carbon budget.

Описание: Nowadays, major environmental issues are the object of large public debates de- spite the fact that scientific knowledge is often insufficient to draw unequivocal conclusions. Such is the case in the ongoing debate regarding the specific contri- butions of anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions and of natural climate changes to global warming. At least 10 to 20 years of additional observations will be re- quired, before we will be able to conclude, with certainty, on this subject. In the mean time, and as directed by their immediate interests, people will continue to promote contradictory opinions. The media are, in part, responsible for perpetuat- ing such debates in that they convey indiscriminately the opinion of highly credi- ble scientists as that of dogmatic researchers, the latter, unfortunately too often expressing working hypotheses as established facts. Naturally, in a similarly mis- informed manner, pressure groups tend to support the researcher whose opinions most closely represent either their particular ideological battles or their economic interests and, hence, in their own way, add further to the confusion and obscurity of the debate. Only a few years ago, mercury (Hg)contamination in hydroelectric reservoirs was the object of such media and social biases. At the time, analytical data used to support the discourse were themselves uncertain and numerous hypotheses, often times fanciful, were proposed and hastily "delivered" to the public.
