Описание: Nonfusion Techniques for the Spine: Motion Preservation and Balance presents information on spine surgery implants and highlights the state of the art in total artificial discs. It addresses the features and benefits of the debate between motion-sparing devices versus motion-eliminating devices and emphasizes the fundamental, basic biomechanical principles applied to spinal implant development. In addition, this book offers valuable pearls of wisdom from developers and clinical users. Motion Preservation Individual chapters dedicated to specific spinal implants that are being used in clinical practice and investigative studies, as well as those on the horizon, are included. Informative chapters on lumbar discs are written by the developers of the products and/or the lead clinical investigators. These individuals are experts on the nuances and technical aspects of the devices featured. Through the book’s balanced approached to the pros, cons, and limitations of each technology, readers will find this an essential resource for determining which device is best suited for each individual patient. A Unique Collaboration A rare meeting of the minds provides the great allure of this book and gives it an individuality all its own. One of the book’s strongest attributes is its collaborative nature. The editors, researchers, and engineers from industry and academia are teamed with contributing spine surgeons and medical professionals. Nonfusion Techniques for the Spine: Motion Preservation and Balance effectively captures this unique collaboration and results in a book with clinical and scientific viewpoints. Biomechanics and Clinical Applications Weaving together biomechanics and clinical applications, the book’s two major divisions, is an important feature of the overall book but also of each individual chapter. The clinical needs and patient emphasis will guide a scientific engineer through the development process needed for new implants, whereas the scientific, mathematical, and engineering principles provide essential knowledge to clinicians. The combination of these two thought processes is very powerful and provides a comprehensive look at the latest information on spine surgery implants. Step-by-Step Technique For the spine surgeon interested in providing patients with the latest treatments and procedures in motion preservation technology, this book is a must. It is beautifully illustrated in four-color throughout and packed with step-by-step surgical instructions that guide the reader through each surgical technique. An accompanying DVD features the key techniques discussed in the book. This book is uniquely positioned to appeal to the general practicing surgeon, the academic professor, and the industry researcher/executive, and is a must read for all involved in the field of spine surgery.

Описание: Hip pathology and nonarthritic hip conditions have only recently been recognized as a cause of hip pain. In 2003, Ganz, Leunig and colleagues described the concept of femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) as a cause of hip pain and a mechanism for end-stage hip osteoarthritis.  Ganz et al. also postulated that 70-90% of hip osteoarthritis is likely due to abnormal hip mechanics related to FAI, dysplasia, or other hip deformities. Over the past ten years, the treatment of these non-arthritic hip pathologies has grown dramatically, and has been estimated to grow by 15% each year. It is the largest segment of grown in sports medicine and orthopedics as a whole. However, no definitive reference yet exists on hip arthroscopy and hip joint preservation surgery. While books have been published on hip arthroscopy, these texts are limited to the technical aspects of the procedure and do not explore content related to hip joint preservation surgery. The scope of this book covers the basic science of hip pathology, anatomy, biomechanics, pathology, and treatment.  It has put together up-to-date research and has invited opinion leaders in the field to contribute to the text. The book is focused on disease pathology and provides comprehensive information on each disease topic, which is followed by technique-driven chapters to provide surgeons a reference for any procedure related to non-arthritic conditions of the hip.?

Описание: This book offers a comprehensive overview of the basic science and clinical evidence for non-arthroplasty interventions in the adult knee. It aims to cover all aspects of joint-preserving knee surgery, from injectable therapies such as platelet-rich plasma and stem cell therapies to surgical interventions such as meniscal repair and replacement, ligament reconstructions, and osteotomies. Following discussion of clinical assessment and imaging, individual chapters focus on specific clinical problems, including patellofemoral joint disorders, chondral injuries, and bone tumors. For each condition, a thorough overview is provided, describing clinical assessment, management (including surgical and non-surgical methods), and novel therapies. The contributors are experts in their fields from across Europe and are drawn from the worlds of clinical and academic orthopedic surgery. This book is unique in its coverage of the entire span of non-arthroplasty knee surgery and its focus on both clinical and basic science aspects. It will be helpful for knee surgeons and those engaged in research on knee-related topics, but also for students and other physicians involved in the care of patients with disorders of the knee.

Описание: This book is intended to offer a “virtual fellowship” in hip surgery that will give readers the opportunity to join distinguished hip surgeons in the operating room, learning key points and solutions to technical difficulties from the beginning to the end of 100 surgical cases. All of these cases have been carefully selected by renowned orthopaedists who work at the world’s top centers and perform surgery based on evidence. To facilitate quick learning, the cases are presented using a uniform template, guiding the reader from clinical evaluation and preoperative planning, through the decision-making process, to the surgical procedure and the final outcome. At the end of each case, the editor invites the surgeon to answer specific questions in order to further elucidate crucial issues with reference to current evidence. The book is divided into four sections: conservative hip surgery, primary hip arthroplasty, complex hip arthroplasty, and revision arthroplasty. It will be of value across the world to specialist hip surgeons and surgeons in training who are interested in hip surgery.
