Описание: This book provides an introduction to decision analytic cost-effectiveness modelling, giving the theoretical and practical knowledge required to design and implement analyses that meet the methodological standards of health technology assessment organisations. The book guides you through building a decision tree and Markov model and, importantly, shows how the results of cost-effectiveness analyses are interpreted.Given the complex nature of cost-effectiveness modelling and the often unfamiliar language that runs alongside it, we wanted to make this book as accessible as possible whilst still providing a comprehensive, in-depth, practical guide that reflects the state of the art – that includes the most recent developments in cost-effectiveness modelling. Although the nature of cost effectiveness modelling means that some parts are inevitably quite technical, across the 13 chapters we have broken down explanations of theory and methods into bite-sized pieces that you can work through at your own pace; we have provided explanations of terms and methods as we use them. Importantly, the exercises and online workbooks allow you to test your skills and understanding as you go along.
Описание: Providing a practical and accessible guide, this book enables readers to quickly build up knowledge and understanding of toxicology applications taking the reader from basic theory to an advanced basics level dealing with specific issues like pesticides, alcohol, and cigarettes.

Описание: This health impact assessment framework serves as a guide to manage health risks and impacts in economic zones of the Greater Mekong Subregion and address transboundary issues associated with human migration.Across the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS), there are over 500 special economic zones (SEZs) and industrial zones located near GMS economic corridors and covering over 50 million people. This proposed health impact assessment (HIA) framework recognizes these SEZs and economic corridors as economic engines of the subregion and aims to maximize benefits for all. The framework aims to provide enhanced guidance for identifying, mitigating, and managing health risks and impacts of unprecedented industrial and economic development in these SEZs, and seeks to address transboundary health issues associated with mobile and migrant worker populations. It proposes HIA as an effective SEZ management support tool to achieve optimum benefits for businesses and associated communities alike.

Описание: Ghana’s demographic profile is changing, and demographic, epidemiological, and nutrition transitions are well underway. However, several of Ghana’s health outcome performances, especially in terms of child health and maternal health, are worse than the levels found in other comparable lower middle income and health spending countries. The volume is timely, given the stage of the Ghana's development. It briefly discusses some of the debates in Ghana’s health sector: decentralization and governance, private sector partnership, strengthening health systems, and health financing. It brings together several elements of health system development and challenges and links it to health financing and delivery performance. The volume reviews the situation among human resources for health and pharmaceuticals. The private sector is growing and attention is required on its development. The volume benefits from health service delivery assessments in the public and private sectors, and finds large variations in distribution and weak incentives to improve productivity and performance. It also reviews the demand side financing reform, its coverage of the population and its effect on service use and the financial sustainability of the National Health Insurance Scheme. There is fragmentation in financing of public health, and inefficiency in health spending, and there is need to improve spending in areas that provide a higher value for money. Data overall has been a constraint, however, the study benefits from various household level surveys to disaggregate the analysis by income quintiles. It also reviews the household’s vulnerability to health shocks and their financial protection against illness costs. There is inequity in health access, health service use, and health outcomes. The Northern regions have poorer results. Finally, the volume highlights the range of policy options needed to improve health system performance and health outcomes. At this stage of the country’s development, and taking the agenda for reform to the next level, the Government of Ghana could embark on significant reforms in the areas of (a) decentralization and governance, (b) health service delivery, (c) public health, and (d) health financing. Further it should set up a holistic and accountable health reform process as it transitions to universal coverage along with its concomitant service delivery, public health, and governance reforms.

Описание: A Risk–centric Approach The Future of the Safety Profession The information and tools contained in Risk Assessment: A Practical Guide to Assessing Operational Risks should get into the hands and minds of every practicing Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) Professional. The biggest risk to an organization is not taking a risk–based approach to protecting people, property and the environment. Organizational confidence in assessing operational risks will come when adopting and building upon the principles and learning s that come from these author s body of work. Defining what Safe looks like must become the future of our profession. Dave Walline, CSP Committee Chair, ASSE Risk Assessment Institute 2013–2015 Risk Assessment: A Practical Guide to Assessing Operational Risk provides the fundamentals on risk assessment, with practical applications, for undergraduate and graduate students and employed safety, health, and environmental professionals who recognize that they are expected to have risk assessment capabilities. This book fills a void. No other textbook has been written as a primer for students and employed safety professionals that covers the fundamentals of risk assessment and emphasizes taking a practical approach in the application of the techniques. In addition, the book addresses seven of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) criteria for safety programs. Over time, risk assessments have been given more prominence as an element in an operational risk management system. This text will serve the needs of professors at a university level who sense the need for their students to have knowledge and capability with respect to risk assessment. It will also serve as a primer for employed safety professionals who need a practical guide on various risk assessment techniques. Risk assessment methods including task analysis, job risk assessment, preliminary hazard analysis, failure mode and effects analysis, what–if analysis, and bow–tie analysis, as well as specific applications including design safety reviews, ergonomic risks, food safety, organizational risk assessment, and project risk are covered in a step by step approach. Including numerous interactive exercises, links, videos, and downloadable risk assessment tools this textbook can be used by undergraduate and graduate students and employed safety, health, and environmental professionals who recognize that they are expected to have risk assessment capabilities Georgi Popov, PhD, QEP, CMC is an associate professor at the University of Central Missouri where he teaches risk assessment.
