Описание:
Throughout the War of Resistance against Japan (1931-1945), the Chinese Nationalist government punished collaborators with harsh measures, labeling the enemies from within hanjian (literally, "traitors to the Han Chinese"). Trials of hanjian gained momentum during the postwar years, escalating the power struggle between Nationalists and Communists. Yun Xia examines the leaders of collaborationist regimes, who were perceived as threats to national security and public order, and other subgroups of hanjian--including economic, cultural, female, and Taiwanese hanjian. Built on previously unexamined code, edicts, and government correspondence, as well as accusation letters, petitions, newspapers, and popular literature, Down with Traitors reveals how the hanjian were punished in both legal and extralegal ways and how the anti-hanjian campaigns captured the national crisis, political struggle, roaring nationalism, and social tension of China's eventful decades from the 1930s through the 1950s.

Описание: Taiji Fencing Principles, Volume 1 is the introductory handbook for foundational fencing ability in tai chi sword practices. This book offers practitioners of internal sword styles the necessary core principles for applying their skills in fencing and combat, and provides an excellent starting point for swordsmen of other styles and newcomers alike. This 200+ page manual includes the 9 foundational principles, with 15 fencing drills, and over 30 illustrations. Tai Chi Sword is a classical Chinese martial art which is defined by its elegance and grace. But in true-to-life combat, it can be difficult to apply these deeper skills, as most resort to hacking and slashing while under pressure. In this handbook, the reader will learn how to train their thoughts and reactions to utilize the postures found in their Taiji / Tai Chi sword forms, and develop a sense of competence in the engagement with an opponent.
Conventional metaphorical expressions are widely used by native speakers in everyday language and have received extensive attention in theoretical semantics and cognitive linguistics. However, how a second language learner can acquire those expressions is left largely unknown. Researchers and language learners face the question: if one has acquired the literal meaning of a word, can they automatically derive the metaphorical meaning?
This book provides the answer by placing the question of acquisition of metaphorical expressions in the framework of bilingual lexicon. Assessing whether metaphorical expressions are taken for granted by second language learners, it explores how the metaphorical meaning(s) of a word should be connected in a learner's mental lexicon, and how the cross-linguistic availability of a metaphorical expression could affect the outcome of acquisition of that expression. The book also provides a detailed comparison between metaphorical expressions and other figurative language from both the theoretical and experimental perspectives.
