Описание: In this text, the emphasis is placed on the theoretical aspects of developmental dyspraxia, the latest research data and the neurological basis of the condition. The focus is to enable professionals to diagnose the disorder and determine the most appropriate and effective methods of intervention.
Описание: Key researchers in inclusion and learning disabilities contribute to this engaging book, bringing together evidence, narrative and discussion to question and advance our understanding of the concept of "access" for people with learning disabilities.
This volume presents the findings of a large-scale study of individual differences in spoken (and heard) language development during the school years. The goal of the study was to investigate the degree to which language abilities at school entry were stable over time and influential in the child's overall success in important aspects of development.
The methodology was a longitudinal study of over 600 children in the US Midwest during a 10-year period. The language skills of these children -- along with reading, academic, and psychosocial outcomes -- were measured. There was intentional oversampling of children with poor language ability without being associated with other developmental or sensory disorders. Furthermore, these children could be sub-grouped based on their nonverbal abilities, such that one group represents children with specific language impairment (SLI), and the other group with nonspecific language impairment (NLI) represents poor language along with depressed nonverbal abilities.
Throughout the book, the authors consider whether these distinctions are supported by evidence obtained in this study and which aspects of development are impacted by poor language ability. Data are provided that allow conclusions to be made regarding the level of risk associated with different degrees of poor language and whether this risk should be viewed as lying on a continuum.
The volume will appeal to researchers and professionals with an interest in children's language development, particularly those working with children who have a range of language impairments. This includes Speech and Language Pathologists; Child Neuropsychologists; Clinical Psychologists working in Education, as well as Psycholinguists and Developmental Psychologists.

A Child Knows More Than You Think Written by a 12 Year Old Child With Dyslexia Jennifer is struggling through school. Kids tease her, teachers question her ability. Her own family doesn't even understand her. Listen to her story as she tells it in her own words. Learn how she struggles from being different from her peers, how she reacted when she finally found out why, and how she overcame the trials dyslexia brought into her life. Parents, teachers, tutors, and family members will benefit from the lessons in this remarkable story. "I Have Dyslexia: This Does Not Define Who I Am!" Jennifer Smith For the one in every five children who has dyslexia and the millions of other's who struggle to read at their own grade levels and for their parents, teachers, tutors, families and friends.
Do you know a child who struggles to pay attention? To communicate with other children or adults? To manage their highly sensitive feelings? To show the "right" emotions? Do you worry that life is going to be hard for this child... forever?
More children today are being diagnosed with developmental delays, anxiety disorders, and social emotional issues than ever before. And children today are facing more challenges than ever before--social, emotional, even spiritual challenges--yet society and our present educational system are still looking at our children through the lens of an old paradigm that honors intellectual gifts and physical talents, above all else.
But what if nothing is wrong with our children? What if our children are simply more sensitive, intuitive, empathic, connected to their own inner worlds? What if our highly sensitive children are the greatest gift to our world, if only we would unwrap their gifts?
Our children are not broken. Our children have a beautiful gift of resilience and empathy. If only we knew how to truly see them. Most of us (parents, educators, specialists), we focus on outside forces and circumstances. We so easily get wrapped up in seeing only a sensitive child, a learning disability, a sensory processing disorder, a social anxiety, or simply a tendency to be a bit different.
No Child Left Unwrapped challenges us to look at our children differently than we ever have before. Our society is based on an old paradigm that is no longer serving our children and youth of today. It's time for us to help our children discover their unique awesomeness because every child is born with beautiful gifts that are meant to be unwrapped and shared with the world.
